Title: Save Presets?
Post by: Tidenburg on February 10, 2008, 07:23:30 PM
OK. One thing you couldn't do in CT is create and then save your gametypes so you could quickly load them later. Dunno if this has been suggested or if its even in the PC version already but I think this would be a nice, easy feature to add.

Gametypes? What are you suggesting?

Post by: Tidenburg on February 10, 2008, 11:24:57 PM
Well, when you set lives, vengeance matches, time, equipments settings, spy lives, merc lives, restrictions, rounds etc. It'd be cool if you could save them and just quickly load them next time round.

Good idea.  I say yes.

It wouldn't really matter, because most people don't change these on a normal basis. I don't think I ever have.

It would for DM-ers or ppl that play different game types aside from story.

Since we would all love for a bunch of tag players to play this game, we should totally have this.

There is no reason not to have it, but I see it being seldom used.

Agreed.  I doubt many tag players will play this game though.  Nice to have, not needed.

they plague chaos theory as it is, its very sad and heart breaking to see such low ping servers and they are DM =/ .. . or TAG  * vomits *  :|

*vomits on your vomit* lol

I can live w/ dm, but tag, come on now.  That's sad.  Deathmatch can be fun sometimes, but story is the only unique thing about the gamemodes in CT, and it's awesome.

yes but there were better modes that in story back in pandora tomorrow, like extraction and sabotage which made it amazing, if anybody can think of 2 other modes objective wise that would be sexy.

i would also like the ability to save gadget load outs ... i think it would be handy for a lot of players that switch for every map ..... looks at agent  ::)

For gametypes I strongly suggest you guys check out the virus upload thread.  It should be on this page and it was started by Binary.

i can't see the point in a feature making only custom rules / dm/tag kids life easier.
Title: Re: Save Presets?
Post by: Tidenburg on February 11, 2008, 07:00:19 PM
Yea, see here gawain, not everyone likes playing story over and over again, and while UBI have their faults, i'll admit that them keeping the way the game could be played open up until DA was a very wise choice for them. If Project Stealth are going to take the dominant "you only play the game the way we want you to play it. Story mode and thats it, no custom rules" stance then you're cutting off about 50% of the fanbase in one fell swoop.
you may not see the point. But people who play the game in different ways do.
Title: Re: Save Presets?
Post by: Gawain on February 11, 2008, 07:42:22 PM
people that play ct regularly with custom rules are pretty much toal morons. hey, i suckt at this game, lets change the rulez...
i'm all for a second game mode with wireless hacking, no ss etc but definitely against custom rules. it's the devs job to maintain balance, not yours.

i agree with both sides, everyonce and a while im up for a game of DM or even tag, just to mess aroun for a bit, but thats because i've already played hours of story or im about to

Let the people who want to play DM play DM.  I play it sometimes.  It's good practice for aggro.

Is changing a few settings really that difficult that you need it saved?
Title: Re: Save Presets?
Post by: frvge on February 12, 2008, 06:31:28 PM
Depends. If you only have a 'stealth' and 'aggro' setting it's probably possible (I am not promising anything btw). However, if you have a 'stealth with normal partner on map X' and so on, it might be too much.

I don't see why not.

It's optional, so it doesn't bother anyone who doesn't want it.

It's very easy programming wise: You just store all the different variables in an .ini files - that way you can easily have an unlimited number of presets.

In the last months I've made:
1) A motion tracker which can be connected to and issued commands to remotely, as well as allowing video stream (includes a lot of file handling)
2) A totally encrypted set of chat programs, including lobby server, clients, proxies, tunnels, gateways and encryption key servers.
3) Some snake-like game
4) A program for sending files, as well as its receiving counterpart.
5) A module with functions like converting a string to 1337-speak.

All made in Python, which is quite similar to C. I don't have Unreal Ed experience, but the dev teams has said you can use C in it. Besides, writing to a file is a VERY basic function, and if you intend to have any kind of profiles you must have it anyways.

You know what?  It would be nice to go into deathmatch and just click a box that says "Unlock All Gadgets/Moves" instead of clicking every god damned box to allow the gadgets and stuff.  Not sure about PC version but on console you have to click on every box for every gadget and feature to allow them, there should be just one.

Point is ion, saving data to files is one of the simples things in almost any language. Saving scripts in php, actionscript and VB can all be made very easily.

I never said it was hard, I am just tired of people refering to the mod like, "We have been thinking about adding this." Shut the hell up unless you are a part of the team. Also, people tend to tell others bs to support their opinion. If it is easy, great. I don't really care if this makes it or not.

Guess what, tough guy - there's a reason why this is a PUBLIC discussion. The dev team wants input, we give them input, it's that simple. And if you really didn't care, you wouldn't post, hypocrite.

*clears throat*

I think we can implement a few presets, like... 3-5. But more than that is annoying. Not because it's hard to program, but because there's not much use and scrolling through the list of presets is bad.

(again a personal opinion)

So, scrolling through six presets is annoying?  :D

Why not just let the player make as many as he wants? If you don't want more than 4, you make 4, but if I want 45634674 I make 45634674.

Who is going to have over 2 or 3 slots anyways?  But if the player wants to make that many presets then go ahead.  Not sure if there is even as many as you posted possible.  :D

Wtf just ran out of your mouth? Get the dick out of your ass and then talk.

I don't really care if slots are implemented, because I will never use them. I don't know what your issue is, but it apparently has nothing to do with me, because you made absolutely zero sense. But, since your e-penis grew a few inches with that post, and your ego went up, I give you props.

So, if I don't care, don't post? The reason I don't care is because this won't change gameplay, won't make me stop playing the game, won't bring new players to the game, and won't be used by me a lot. So, I have an opinion, and that opinion is that it really doesn't matter if this is in the game or not. If the devs have extra time; throw it in. If not, it doesn't matter.

Why don't you explain to us how you can have an opinion on it and not care at the same time?  Why don't you respond in a regular, comeback fashion instead of ramble on about how "stupid" someone is?

On second thought, never mind.  I'll keep out of this one.  Idiots will only try to drag you down into their own intelligence level if you attempt to argue with them.  Plus, we want to keep this forum clean.

Gameplay won't be changed at all, but that doesn't mean insults have to fly. The forum is here for ideas, whether they change the gameplay or are just the little things. Doesn't mean it automatically gets put in the game.

it's possible to have an opinion about something but not care till a certain point. for instance, i consider >50% of the current ct players (dm players and others) total morons, but i don't care about them as long as i can filter them out ingame and as long they don't appear in forums like this and spam bullshit which is really annoying.
