Hmm another idea I've thought out, is well the problem with the mines in the previous game was you could only put mines in certain spots.
To kinda mix it up a bit , i thought hmm why not have the ability to put those 3 mines, where ever your little heart desires thus making project stealth even more diverse then the other splintercells!
You mean like on the ceilling and floor? MAYBE the floor, not sure though. Where else would someone put it? Like on objectives and stuff?
QuoteAND ITS A NEW ENGINE SO THEREFORE ITS GUNNA BE SIMILAR TO CT BUT WITH A DIFFERENT FEEL SO STOP COMPARING, you kids drive me insane
I know you're going with the PT approach to mines, but I had to add this.
Hmm... How about putting mines on everything except moving objects??
Why not ON moving objects? ;D
Sneak up on a spy, put a proxy on him and watch the fireworks :P

If a proxy was moving it would instantly explode, since everything in it's range would move.

Mines on moving objects doesn't work.
I meant the idea on mines that can be placed anywhere besides some specific points... That was already a plan(5 months ago?), duh...
Again... You guys are slow :P

I want to be able to launch mines with my gun to liek totally stickzor them in teh vents!
That would be totally OP. Totally. And i mean it.
No, seriously, this would be even worse than having drones. Also, i think that spies should have another gadget for setting up traps except cams, because it's just too easy for the merc to flip on the mask and forget about anything...

WHAT THE F*CK?? I only understood the emoticon there...
How about having some kind of robo-spiders that could walk around one specific room when released, and when they spot any thermal signs in front of them, they raise an alarm and lock-down the room?? That would be pure awesome, though there should be a huge nerf to something in this idea...
Lol, give them time to program AI then. :D
If that would be possible, omg, so awesome. Even though it might tweak the gameplay too much. I know you were kidding but whatever.

I know you were kidding but whatever.
I wasn't. It would take some serious time to make, but hopefully it could be balanced with mines, eg. if you take mines + robo-spider you only have 3 mines of 5 possible, and you can only plant 2 at a time.
Otherwise it would be normal, 5mines + 3 planted.
The other thing would be how many can be run simultaneusly (spelling??). I say one per merc, but that's a subject of balance, so i'll just stfu.
Serious time indeed. I'm not a dev so I wouldn't know, but that's what I'm guessing.
I liked GoldenEye proxmines. You could throw them. Why not have that ability, then you could throw them onto anything almost anywhere. It would make the ability to move slowly on poles and climbing mandatory and not set the mines off. I wouldn't mind running into a mine in a vent. Hell, you run into enough coming out of them, why not just be careful every where. That's the reason why time travel is impossible. The end.
Why the hell would you even want robo spiders?
I thought it was a joke myself.
NO to throwing mines. Then you could put them places, I don't even care to explain, think about it yourselves. Throwing them up in vents and such is bad, mmkay?

I actually like the idea. Maybe as an alternate? They were quite useful.
Useful in Goldeneye, probably overpowered in a game like PS, CT, PT, or any SvM game depending on how exactly it's implemented. One downfall to planting mines is that it disables you for a bit until you plant it, and you have your back turned. If you could throw mines you could just run around full speed tossin mines everywhere. No thanks.
Goldeneye has a way faster pace, therefore throwing mines is balanced there.
Also thrown mines would make it impossible for spies to remove them if they were stuck to a ceiling short of shooting them off and raising attention. I say keep it the way it is.

I don't even think it was balanced there. Remote mines were semi-balanced, the prox mine duels were just a matter of whoever wanted to start wandering around the level and get killed. If you were playing a 4 player deathmatch, it was basically impossible to even see them.
As far as launchable mines in PS, the big problem becomes how the spy would end up disarming them. I suppose if they always had to go on the floor, it wouldn't be bad. because a spy can always get to it. But putting them on ceilings or above the spy's reach in a room would be really cheesy. It's okay to have a few points like this on a map where people can memorize them, but being able to put them on any wall anywhere, would be crazy.
But I think a launched proxy that looks similar to a frag but doesn't explode immediately could work. The main disadvantage of launched mines is that they'd be very obvious sitting in the middle of the floor, but they'd be quicker to place. Still it's a lot better to set up a mine on the wall around a corner as opposed to just having it sit out in the open. You couldn't get a great amount of precision from the launcher if it worked the same as the frag launcher does now. So long as we've got slow animations and falling doesn't immediately set them off, we should be ok.

back on topic plz: diversified mines. i think it should be possible to place them on the ground. other ideas would be an adjustable angle for laser or poison mines (or spytraps) or even an adjustable trigger time and radius XD

Gawain, no to adjusting laser direction. That is why it takes some skill/intelligence to plant them effectively. If you could just plant it anywhere and have it point anywhere, that's would make mines ridiculously overpowered. Imagine planting a mine and adjusting a laser so it shoots up into a vent, or into the spy spawn, or into other choke points. If this was possible, the merc could plant a mine somewhere so that it can't be disabled by the spy, especially with chaff not going through walls.
you could shoot the chaff down the vent papa.

It depends westfall. And even if you could chaff them it would give away your position AND force you to take them every single match.

Thats the imbalance. So why add it?
there are already tons of places where you can't bypass traps/poison mines without chaff/mate. i can see that poison mines and traps may be op in some more spots with free angle placement, but laser mines could certainly need more possibilities. i don't see any problems with mines on the floor at all (as there will be a slow-climb move anyways if the devs aren't dumb which they obviously aren't).
can any dev confirm that laser mines will blow up instantly and that the trigger radius of proxies or the delay gets lowered?
it would make more sense to base a discussion on more facts as these changes seem quite reasonable and natural to me.
being able to place mines on the floor would make it possible for mercs to entirely block off every single ladder in the map they can access. And the ability to adjust the angle of the laser would just prove too powerful. They would make it possible to create criss-cross patterns that no spy could viably bypass. Leave mines the way they are.
