Modems.

/thread

Modems used to be so much fun, especially on the pipe outside 212! Anyway, Robbie modems were devices spies placed on walls in line of sight of the terminals. Once they were planted they begun hacking and if the modem was shot before the hacking was complete then the progress reset. You also only had only one modem but they could be restocked at an ammo box.

What the hell? That sounds way more cool than a freaking bomb objective >.>

Ahh, the good ol' days when you were hunting for that god damn modem everywhere and then getting DJ'd. <3

Very few people even played Sabotage but it was actually quite fun now and again. In PT I once had a game with my old teammate where we had like...4 simultaneous modems hacking objectives at the same time.*evil grin*

Yeah, nothing like a big f.u. when you entered a room to stop a spy hacking only for him to taze you, jump on top of the terminal and then onto your head. It's okay though as overpowered as spies were 10 foot tazers, MT and vertical mines/traps were just as bad. I forget but weren't mines also un-chaffable in PT?

Anyways back on-topic I'll just say don't fix what isn't broken. There doesn't seem to be any real need to change things before they've been play tested in Project Stealth.

DreadStunLock

Still a suggestion, and something that keeps people comming up with new ideas I guess.

MulleDK19

Ya, how about just putting them at ammo crates, or perhaps just one per spawn, or maybe an equipment cache at the spawn point.

If my heart ever heals, I will make sure it'll never break again.

DreadStunLock

That could work, why not? It would be nice to see a big change in one of the objectives.

I always got excited when I spawned with 9999 modems in my inventory in SCCT. I love how lazy UBI is...

I stop looking at these forums for a while and the second I do so you guys go and talk about the greatest game mode I've ever played.

Neutralization: Meh, good standard mode.

Disk Hunt: Wow, It's like one sided capture the flag. Haven't seen that in a game before

CT Sabotage: Oh boy, you took a good mode and dumbed it down so that you wouldn't have to fix "Buggy" modem spots.

PT Sabotage: Now here is the holy grail of game modes. Not only did it make Spy have an objective that was actually fun. It encouraged you to actually think about where you want to set this damned modem.

Sure, everyone just ended up putting it in the buggy spots, but that was where the rest of the fun came in.
If you haven't noticed, I'm REALLY good at making a simple response into a wall of text.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah. Well if it's more talk about bringing PT Sabotage back then I'm all for it. Someone will have to talk for me if I don't show up in a quick fashion.

Sure, the PS devs could go shake up the formula a little bit and make Modem Mode a little more their own, but regardless they should bring it back.

Sabotage was a hell of a game mode;
bring it back.

How is it different to the bomb one? Does the sabotage has specific places or you can place it anywhere in range?

You could place it "Anywhere" as long as it had a line of sight to the objective. The modem showed up on EMF real well, and also was pretty big regardless. So it was all in where you hid it, and then protected it.

99% of the time that meant that even if you COULD place it anywhere, the merc could be reasonably sure that the modem would be in the same room as the objective. Also that it wasn't too far from the it. Though some bugged spots would put the modem in a whole different room.

Other than that it was pretty much the same as CT. You protected the modem till it finished hacking. If it got shot off you'd have to start the hack all the way over again. ect ect.

I'm sure there was more to it, I just remember having fun times with the mode. Though perhaps it was the bugginess that I found fun. My friend and I would spend a lot of time traversing maps just to see if we would find a "New" place to place modems.

When a modem was shot, the timer didn't reset.
It started off at the time it was shot.
