Sooo, that extra partition there...

On my new pc, I looked inside it (actually did that before I switched it on being the geek I am :P ) and saw it had only 1 HD so I was surprised when I saw the extra partition when it booted with 300GB free space and 0b taken... I've started installing all my games in there and CS3 but i'm just wondering if that's what it's for or i'm overwriting some kind of important partition? It's called Data (D:/).

It's fine. You probably forgot you made it in the first place, or maybe it comes standard if you bought a complete PC.

If not, read your manual and see what it says about recovery. It's quite possible they created a HIDDEN partition not accesable through Windows.

If that's what it is then fuck that. They aren't having nearly half my HD (290GB!?) for backing up my files, I have an external HD for that!  :-\

I said HIDDEN PARTITION. IF you didn't get any CD/DVD's which let you restore factory settings, there are either hidden files on the DATA partition*, or they made a hidden partition which you can access by pressing some funky keys all at once while booting up (see manual).

* Turn on "Show all hidden files" and "Show system files" in your Windows Explorer options to be sure, although, when 0 bytes where used I doubt it.

erData sounds like Express Recovery Data or w/e tho. But it'll be fine.

Just looked at the vista partition manager and there is a 9gb extra partition. I assume that's the one you're talking about lennard?

Yep, you can see it with the partition manager, but not access it through Explorer.

Check your manual on how to boot it, probably under "Recovery".

So it's clear to use DATA for games and stuff.
