Project Stealth: Espionage

2045, Everywhere.

In 2026, Canadian Prime Minister held a hearing for United Nations and declared that they will be aggressively pursuing alternative sources for fuel and advises the rest to do the same. He advised, like many have before, that our non-renewable resources are much lower than studies and surveys have shown. In 2030, the world was shocked to hear that the Canadian Prime Minister was right. Later that year, all superpowers and those within the UN signed the “Trudeau Treaty” where governments set aside their differences to find solutions to the problems in the world.

The world went 15 years without war. The world was growing faster, stronger, healthier and most importantly wealthier. With the new Treaty of all governments working together, corporations and independent companies were racing to find the next solution to save the world. Any type of information could lead to a break and large benefits from the government. Sadly corporations and independent companies will stop at nothing to get it.

Wars may have been diverted, but corporate espionage has never been so active nor deadly.

With Military specialists out of jobs, they resort to the corporations and independent companies to supply their needs. Their mission: to sabotage, steal and even eliminate important personal and information of rival companies to further the gain of their employers. Some are hired to protect such information and personal. Thus a secret new war begins. Lives will be changed and lost, information destroyed, money spent and gained; all to save the world.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This way, no mater what type of level or where, it can be justified. Terrorist and Counter Terrorist stuff has been done. Corprate wars was just an idea. They have lots of money and can pay for the high tech stuff that our spies and mercs enjoy. Obviously the little story I made needs some work but I think my idea can be seen.

I just thought a premise would be a good idea to have. Then we can establish a type of direction and art form for the UI and the game. I was thinking of starting to create a title screen and was thinking we should take the time to come up with this and maybe an official name. Unless Project Stealth is the name? I dunno, just thought a discussion on it should be started.

Nice story, but this means that maps will have to be in modern, well-tended buildings.
No more of the abandoned Schermerhorn  :'(

Oh wait scratch that, I even got a cool idea for a map - an office has recently been severely damaged by fire. Spies are sent in the now abandoned building to gather any resourceful information that is still intact, guards are sent in to eliminate anyone trying to take advantage of the unguarded building and to retrieve the info when the threat has been eliminated.

This would be so cool, a bunch of offices, all burnt out and black with only a few surviving lights.  8)

Levels like schemerhorn could also be described as underground companies that are doing illegal work. Thus big corporations and smaller companies want them out or their ideas. Thus they are in hidding.

Lurch

Well, multiple in-game skins would fit this theme very well. You said there were many corporations, so there must also be variety in the looks of spies and mercs, right?

Daybreak

Not if they all hire the same guys. They are the best.

A bomb moved under an enemy corporation HQ via abandoned subway tunnel? :)

About the concept. I really like it, but are spies agents of a corporation, or goverment? Now that the world sounds a lot like it's in Deus Ex, the goverment itself would have very little room to manouver, since the economical power is strongly balanced towards the corporations. So the spies should be corporate agents as well. But there's just the idea we may have been looking for:

I for istance, team up with a very good friend of mine, and we found a team. The name of the team would actually be an imaginary corporation, where we would play the role of their mercenaries and spies, and use a spesific logo. This would be a kind of an alternative to create depth into the game directly from the players themselves. The possibilities with custom logo's would be (at least "ideally") limitless. For instance, each "corporation" would wear their logo as an armpatch on their shoulder, or their back (like ARGUS mercs) nowdays. The same logo used in the characters (mercs) would (if possible) be used in the level decoration as well, indicating as it the area mercs are protecting would be part of the same corporation they work for.

Now see, that's not a bad idea at all. have a spot on the armor for clan symbols. That's pretty cool.

My idea of the Premise, was just that an Idea to have reason for this game. Of course it could be labeled as just SvM and have no ryhme or reason. I am merely trying to help find an art direction for the game.

As it stands, we have no art direction other than what our spy looks like. This direction, will help with the details of it all. However, maybe i'm thinking too far into the future as we are only trying to re-make SvM.

With that in mind, maybe we should actually think of a standard list of what exactly needs to be converted. We all know we are recreating SvM CT. But Setting goals and tasks for the project would be a good start.

On another note. Is it possible to do a Total Conversion using what info of UT that came with CT or is it so stripped that it's useless to mod. From the reactions of others, I can only guess that the latter is the case.

Personally, I don't think we NEED a story. Just some info about two factions (the spy and merc organizations) the year and thats it. This way, the story will be dependent on the map. This allows tons of variations with level themes that wouldn't be possible if we stuck to an ovearching storyline.

This way we can have a level like Pyrocryptic, with is own feasable backstory that makes sense in the world, as well as a Level like Krauser Lab, that with its own story will also make sense. Instead of what happen with CT and people calling a certain level stupid and "not fitting in with the theme of splinter cell."

In fact, screw a story at all. As long as the maps are balanced, I don't care if I'm snapping necks and sniping spies on a floating airship, in the middle of a volcano, inside a deep sea research lab, or inside a abandoned english castle. More themes = more fun.

CT/DA MP had to have a story to fit in with the Single player campaign. We don't have a singleplayer, so we shouldn't worry about a story.

As for art direction, we have plenty. Also, the final decision of what something will look like will come down to the person that decided to use his free time to make it. Also, each level as far as I'm concerned can have its own art style, as long as it integrates the look of the spies/mercs correctly. (Like no toon shading or stylized stuff.)

Now see, That makes perfect sense. I'm sold.

I guess now all we need is a name. "I figure since i have yet to see a thread about it I came up with a perfect name for the game." It describes the nature of the game for both sides and basically the point.

Stealth Assault

Good one.

That was me btw. I'd prefer if you don't say what was moved.

Overstatement

Unless you're going to make something that actually needs the name (e.g website), I don't think you should make one now. The later it comes, the more time you have to think about it.

P.S: I've also "not seen" a thread about the name and logo either.

Valserp

Change the word "stealth" to something less cliche?

Like "Operation: Subtle Assault".

Yeah, I know...

Daybreak

Like "Operation: Subtle Assault".

Yeah, I know...
---------------------------------

Okay so apparently this operation we are to rock our enemies to sleep. Our best ammo is our accapella version of "Wonderful World".

On a more serious note.
Espionage
Silent Prey
Shadow Assault
Silent Assault
Silent Shadows
Sally sold sea shells siting sideways, subtly seducing sick souls since seven.
Super Splinter Cell
Splinter Cell CT 64
Spies in the Dark
Mercs can't see me
And last but not least, Flare Shooter

The name Splinter Cell is copyrighted so you better strike the Splinter Cell names from the list! ;)

How about "Operation: Silent Storm"?

Or (since the backstory of the game / mod is a bit about it) how about "Operation: Cold Assault"?

Other names I could think of are:

Climatic Assault
Silent Rebellion
Cold Crisis
Silent Survival
Invisible Destruction
Stealth Encounters
Corruption
Day 0
Environmental Espionage
Espionage Next
The spy who pwnd me  (just kidding)
Wealth Survival
Operation: Encounter
Silent Resistance

Or since everything is going to take place in a fictional future simply: Prediction
