You do have the freedom to wander around for ages finding doors you can't get through yet until you finally find the one way you were meant to go, I guess.

Except uh I guess Prime 3 didn't really let you do that. Or Fusion, for that matter. But Fusion was still fun, and Prime 3 was still um it had good controls!

QuoteMetroids were awesome for the feeling of loneliness (is that a word?)  and the freedom that they gave to the player.
Really? I disagree (I love the Metroid series on the whole, btw):

Metroid 1 was fairly non-linear. Metroid 2 was extremely linear, as you couldn't progress to the next area until you eradicated all the metroids in your current area.

Super Metroid is faily linear as well, although less so if you can master the wall jump, and only becomes extremely non-linear if you can master the dash-->ball glitch, which is extremely difficult to do.

Metroid Prime only offered freedom if you were able to master the strafe jump glitch; however, this glitch was actually removed in the GoTY version (I spent hours of frustration attempting to do it before I discovered this fact).

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption offers no freedom at all. The game progresses similar to Metroid 2 in that you can only go from A---> B ---> C.

All in all, the Metroid games only offer freedom to players who discover and perfect how to glitch. I wouldn't really call that offering players freedom by default. Freedom is what the last 2/3 of FF3, the 2nd half of Chrono Trigger and what the Mega Man series offers: you can complete your tasks in any order.

QuoteSo you're saying, the game allows you to skip over half of it, and you will exploit that to an almost 90% skip?
That sounds hard.
No, the % complete tracks how many items you collect. 13% meant that he beat the game with minimal equipment/missile packs/power bombs/energy tanks/etc.

QuoteAnd it offers you freedom.  You can go anywhere so long as you have the necessary gear.  You do have to get that gear in a sequence, technically,
That's not freedom; that's the game pre-defining your path through the game, even though it doesn't seem so because you have to backtrack after you obtain certain items.

lol. I love the metroid series but not nearly as much as you do apparently, being able to talk about it at such depth. Now that's fucking hardcore.

Just don't let it progress beyond that, okay? You'll end up like this guy.

Farley4Fan

It is already way beyond that.  He is a way cooler than that guy, and he's pretty damn amazing.

I'd say about 2000 of that was in the first 6 months I was a member.  I had like 9 posts a day.  But now I average I think about 3.  So that means I really haven't been posting lately, like everyone.
