White Phoenix

Hey everyone.
I'll start by saying these forums should have an Introduction category.

Some of you may have seen my posts on Ubisoft's Conviction forums if you go there. Think what you will of me for that, but I'm generally a pretty laid back person.

My name is Jacob. I'm 21 years old as of a few days ago, and in April I leave for boot camp with the United States Navy after which I'll be going into the Navy's Nuclear program. Right now, I don't have a computer aside from the laptop that I forum on(if forum can be used as a verb), so obviously I have no way of playing Project Stealth, whenever a playable form should be released. However, for those of you who know, Nukes get paid quite a lot of money, so if I am able to somehow find a way to find some free time during nuke school and I can save up for a decent computer, I probably will purchase one, and, as long as this game comes out within the 2 years before I leave for sub duty, I look forward to playing with all of you.

In the meantime, I'm interested in watching the progress of Project Stealth. It looks like a wonderful update to Pandora Tomorrow, which was, in my firm opinion, the best of the Splinter Cell SvM experiences, though Chaos Theory was definitely a lot of fun too (we won't talk about Double Agent because... well, if you're on these forums you probably already know why).

Best of luck to the dev team, and I hope this community is significantly better than the one I'm currently having to deal with at the Ubisoft forums. ;D

Hello!

Always good to see new members :) Only you can decide for yourself if it's a better forum than Ubisoft's, but many of the people who left there visit this one regularly. Good luck with your Navy program :)

Phoenix is the man. On the SC Forums, he fed Scottie James his lunch pretty good. Glad to have you here. 8)
Good luck with the Navy. My fine ex-girlfriend's currently in the Marines.

Thanks guys. So far things here are much better. The Ubisoft forums are tiring, that's for sure. First scottjames and now sgt_brent, who is an absolute moron by the way. It's difficult to argue with him because he's so stupid. When you start a sentence trying to convince me that Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory are too simple by comparing it to chess, you've just set yourself up for failure.

Apparently he thinks Mark and Execute is going to make the game more intricate, when really it just eliminates any need to plan out an attack on multiple targets and follow them around because when you can clear a room of guys in 2 seconds from a safe spot just by highlighting each of them and then pressing a single button, that's obviously very difficult and engaging. ::)

I still can't get over the fact that he thinks Pandora and Chaos were simple and that Double Agent and Conviction are complex. I guess he didn't get the memo that everyone hated Double Agent because it simplified the game.

Haha, small world. I'm an sub nuke officer and soon going to my first sea tour.

I'll be honest...it's going to be tough for you to find time to play PS during power school and prototype. Good luck.

White Phoenix

Yes, that's what I've heard. From what I understand, any recreational activity is STRICTLY limited to weekends because you're so damn busy in the classroom every day of the week.

Eh, it's more regimented for you guys, but a lot will depend on how fast you can memorize crap and your LPO. Some guys like to assign mandatory hours just 'cuz, regardless of performance (even some O advisors did this... thankfully mine didn't), but don't give them justification for doing so by doing poorly on tests.

Prototype is 13 hour days for you guys no matter what (if you include before and after shift muster). The bitch will be the shifting of your sleep schedule every 8 days. Add an hour of commute time and an hour for getting ready before/after work and you still have an hour of free time a day with 8 hours to sleep.

Even still, if you can't find time for recreation on the weekdays, even if it's just 30 minutes, you're doing it wrong.

White Phoenix

Well that's very reassuring. I was afraid it'd be weekends only from now till I enter the fleet. And then in the fleet it's 7 days of work a week, right? That should be fun. But then, when we get out, we'll be set for life, eh? You especially since you're on the officer side of things. Maybe I'll run into you someday.

Like I said, it depends on how well you can do. Just don't fall into the hive mentality that life has to suck just because. I swear, you enlisted sailors are your own worst enemies. You'll understand that statement better once you've been through the pipeline.

Depends. Depends on what the command is doing, what needs to be done, etc. I've spoken to guys who have come off shipyard duty with no days off in months. I've spoken to guys who have had much less rigorous schedules. There's really no way to predict this, either...it's all luck of the draw. My boat's got an ~80% at sea rate, which is relatively high. Shit happens.

QuoteThat should be fun. But then, when we get out, we'll be set for life, eh?
You make of it what you make of it, just like any other rating. There are a lot of opportunities available to you to better yourself; it's up to you to pick the brains of your LCPOs and take advantage of what's out there.

If/when I get out of the Navy, I am done with nuclear power.

White Phoenix

How much longer do you have? I'll be in the fleet in 2 years if all goes well.

What are you doing currently? You obviously have internet access. Are you on shore duty or leave or what?

3 years in June, with a min of 24 months sea duty that I will hit with my tour.

Sub officer basic course. We had our final last weak, now it's just leadership classes. Not a heavy schedule compared to the nuke stuff, but it's probably more important in the scheme of making sure your ass doesn't die in combat.

White Phoenix

Then I might run into you in your last year if I end up on the same boat as you. I don't really know how it all works, being that I haven't even gone through basic yet.
