Today I decided to take action in life and uninstall every game on my pc for the reason that it took away valuable time for more productive things (i didnt remove my saved games though >:)

I have a friend with 4.0 GPA, he plays no video games but he smokes pot everyday.
I have  lower GPA and i dont do drugs but instead i play videogames.

I am always slacking off and sometimes even play online only because i dont want to get my books out even if i dont feel like im having fun online.

to come to think of it, this is comparable to a pretty serious drug addiction...

apparently all addictions seem to have the same repercussions no matter if its a drug, overeating, or counterproductive pastimes like videogaming.

What do you guys think of this?
Does any of you feel the same way?
Are you capable of removing all of your games in one spontaneous minute and wait to play until summer?
Do you think you could do better in school if you didnt play videogames?

Do you have any friends that get perfect grades and smoke pot all the time?
Do you believe those myths saying that pot make people smarter?

(ok too many questions, just trying to get an interesting topic going on in here)

Too much of everything is bad.

I don't have much time for games now that I work fulltime :(.

Ultimately,  you are responsible for yourself.

Games are for entertainment, and to much of anything is unhealthy.  Dropping the habit though doesnt necessarily change anything because people will often just replace the addiction with another.

And no,  pot doesnt make you smarter or more creative and is not performance enhancing in any way.

I have smoked large amounts of it for a few years, and know the differance to being clean.  I have also been doing meditative yoga for several years and will say that a "clean" high is completely possible and IS performance enhancing.

You shouldnt be fucking around in college anyways if you want a 4.0 gpa and to actually do something with your education.  But telling that to people in there early twenties is pointless.  Thats pretty much the age where fucking up defines yourself and you actually start learning from first hand experience now that the training wheels are off.

Interesting.  I agree that too much of anything is bad (even too much school :D).  If one thing is hindering your abilities to concentrate or perform in school, then it is probably going overboard.  I would say it was a good choice to uninstall your games if you feel like it is becoming a problem.  I know the feeling.  However, somehow I manage to buckle down and do my work when it is necessary.  It takes a lot of self-discipline, and most of my friends struggle with the same thing.  During the week days I don't ever have time to play any games because I have work to do all the time.  Good thing it is spring break!  Even right now I have a 10 page single-spaced paper on international trade due in 5 days which I have not started  :-\.  Today is the day I will force my self to sit down and right at least 2 of the pages.  I guess my biggest motivation right now is to stay in the race for valedictorian or salutatorian in my high school because I am currently ranked 2nd and there is only a month left.  So as a summary: video games are for a fun, relaxing, and lazy time.  Be sloppy and enjoy your time for fun (without getting in trouble) but find the will-power or motivation to do your work when it really matters.  Good luck man

Imma lay down it like this;  it all comes to self control , Hell I was the biggest slacker of em all
in high school and i still made it. You may think that , uninstalling your games is gunna help but really
its a mind over matter thing because at the end of the day when it comes right down to it
You can't avoid technology/ Video games, its there and everywhere/ When there's those times that you can't call on ur so called "friends " or Girlfriend  be it , that they are off an on holiday or spending time with family or a case of which ur on your  own ,no matter  what  there is video games to fill that void.

I smoke/smoked pot. Been a month since I touched it.

From my expirience pot isn't really addictive. It mostly is so "easy" to use that you could roll a smoke (normal tobacco) and end up putting pot in it. Just because it takes no effort.

You can compare it with going into town to shop and before you leave for home you walk passed a burgershot. It's just so "easy" to walk in there and have your lunch/dinner instead of waiting till you are home to cook it.

I don't notice anything special about my mates who also smoke pot. One more often than the other though. They act pretty sane, though it is hell of a lot of fun to discuss meanings of life and outer space. Makes for some wierd awesomesauce conversations.

Personally, I find that if you ever do get "addicted" to pot, you seriously are one hell of a weak will'ed person and deserves a life in the gutter.

I think I could put all my games away for months if I wanted to, but I don't.  Like it has been said here a bunch of times, it's all about self control.  I need to play CT on xbox and enjoy it while I can since they are shutting down original xbox support.  (I might try that x-link thing but who in the hell would do it with me besides a few of you guys?)

With Red Dead Redemption, Alan Wake, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming out next month it would be hard to avoid gaming.  I mean, seriously.  3 goty contenders coming out in 1 month.  I'll be broke.

Good bye videogames!
This summer i have an internship, then i will be transfering to a univeristy by fall 2010. So that might be it for me guys..
i might still hang around in the forum and social networks a little, but um i think its time for the next step in my life, i think that I have been forcing videogames into my life without really having the time for them. I am the kind of student who relies on other students to understand stuff because i used to always procrastinate. I also have not been doing my required reading for each chapter covered in class, this could be due to the fact that i take a large number of classes, but still i could be doing better. its time for me to put in time to my school work at home, i have to push myself more i dont want to be mediocre.

Even though i spend entire days (like 12 hours at campus) 5 days a week, i still come home and just play videogames when i could be reading.

I guess sometimes we dont realize how short days are and how fast time goes by.
Sometimes i think "i just need a short break" and to come to think of it, i realize that somedays all i would do is take "short breaks" all day ITS BULLSHIT!

good luck with project stealth... i might play it once im done with my undergrad major and i am studying for medschool...

or once im done from medschool...

hmm

or when im old and tired of practicing medicine...

ill make a little room for this god damn mod in some point in my life...

Short term objectives
*Get A's in all classes, one B maximum.
*Complete cancer research internship and volunteer at hospital before transfering
*obtain associates degree by waving "computer literacy" class and passing the health-101 exam (to not have to take that class)
*Transfer UCSD (i was accepted today woohoo!)
*Practice drumming more
*Hit the gym!
haha thats it for now.

feel free to post your short term goals

Sunshine

One thing I know is stupid: Going from 100% to 0% or the other way around over 1 day. In the end you'll just stop with it and go back to the old habbits. It's better to slowly decrease your use of videogames for example.

Just look at all those people who're trying to lose weight - they start one day and overdo it or whatever I should call it. In the end they get way to hungry and start eat alot gain back the weight they lost AND even gain some more.

It's same with someone who wanna hit the gym or like go out running, you do it everyday or like 5 days a week, get bored and quit.

Maybe you'll do it but imo most people who stop / or start with to big steps ends up failing.

And I think studying to much is not healthy at all, you need some free time. A time where your brain can take in all the information you've learned and make it stay. Instead of learning all the time - then you'll forget what you started learning.

It would be good if you were studying, had some self discipline and then stopped for a while, played games for max 30min as a break then went back to your homeworks.

Just how I see things, but maybe I'm completly wrong :)

Yeah, I'm not in school or anything.  Just working a simple job taking care of my simple life.  I like where I'm at emotionally and financially and I don't have a problem with it.  I have lots of free time but I've switched from playing games all the time to reading books and spending time with family and friends as much as possible.  Like everyone else has said, too much of something is bad, and also going from 100% to 0% is unlikely and unsustainable.  Just restrict yourself more and have self control.

Can't believe I agree with Agent.

Roberto has it ever occurred that you being a university student and all the claims you
make still make you a retard ?, Has it ever popped in your head that maybe your friend who does pot
is just naturally academically inclined and your just a noob who struggles like the rest of the world ?

I won a scholarship today!  ;D
and I got into the internship!  8)

Just because i push myself into improving as a person dosent mean I suck. Contrary to your belief, gaygent, people are not born with these "genious/skill" traits. They practice it and get good at it.

Believe it or not, your antisocial psychomanic mental behavior has fooled you into believing that you were somehow born with SCCT versus mode "skills". Where in fact you have been playing the same god damn buggy ass game nonstop inside your dark batcave-like room for the past 15 years of your life.

This reminds me of cartman in "fishsticks" from the 13th season when he convinces himself he came up with the best joke of all time. lol...
