Sorry to those w/o an xbox but I don't think Limbo is coming to PC.

At this moment, at least, it's only on XBLA.

I bought it and beat it in one day.  Though that may sound bad, it was actually one of the most atmospheric and addictive games I've ever played.  I literally could not put the controller down because I was so eager to see what the next puzzle/trap/environment would be.

It's undoubtedly short but undoubtedly sweet.  15 bucks I would normally say is too expensive for a game that will only last you 5 hours and maybe 3 more hours down the road in a 2nd playthrough.  Normally I would say that, but I loved every minute I spent with this gem.

This game doesn't have much of a story to speak of, but there was definitely some symbolism to give you an idea of what actually happened.  It's not about the story, however, it's about solving the clever puzzles, enjoying the artistic environments, and adventuring through this strange little world.  You can't help but squirm when a buzz saw repeatedly grinds the Limbo Boy into several pieces or when a giant spider stabs him with a giant leg.

The game ends very abrubtly, and it's very fitting when you finally figure out what happened to the boy, but it left me wanting more.

Regardless, a 9.9/10

Okay, a 10

This is the second time you guys just ignore a thread I made about a certain game.

I'm going to download the demo for 360 soon.  Then I will comment.  ;)

Demo is quite fun. Seeing the boy be dismembered made me extra careful to avoid bear traps. I already hate spiders and this game doesn't help.

You didn't really give us much to discuss. You didn't even tell us what genre the game is, let alone anything really interesting. Most people here don't have 360s, so what are they meant to say?

Cool.  Sorry to hype it up sooo much but it's really awesome imo

You will overcome your fear.  Mark my words.  On your monitor with permanent ink, mark em.

K don't do that

Fair enough, but you could always look it up on youtube or something :/

It's a 2d sidescroller in the realm of something like Braid, but it's very dark and gruesome.  Like I said in the op it's a puzzle game and there are a bunch of nasty traps set to keep you from proceeding.  They can be pretty tough but they are extremely rewarding to complete.

The game has an awesome physics system that actually works.  The physics here are so good that they actually can play a role in the puzzles without annoying the living shit out of you.  The puzzles range in simplicity and involve things like moving crates or timing your jumps.  Usually, solving the puzzle means passing an area without dying.  Seriously, you will die a lot in this game.  You will die from bear traps, buzz saws, spike traps, giant spiders, drowning, falling, boulders, electricity, etc etc etc...  You will usually die to test something until you figure out what works.  You may get sliced in half by something that fell from the sky and then realize you can use that something to your advantage in your next life by grabbing it/moving it.  You can even push dead bodies over a switch to solve a puzzle or trigger a trap.

The gray scale style and art design is superb, the sound design is even better despite the lack of music.  The only sound in this game is some ambient noises and the perfect sound effects.  Occasionally when things get intense/scary the volume increases and produces some eery buzzing noises to a good effect.

All that leads to a very atmospheric environment and I find it remarkable that a 2d game was able to accomplish that.

You can turn off the gore if you are squeamish, but seeing the gore and stuff makes you more afraid to take chances.  You don't want to see the boy get his intestines ripped out.  You feel responsible for his death and makes you feel guilty.  Very surreal feeling.

The game is very short, so if you don't like the demo then obviously it would be hard to recommend it.  You guys will have to tell me where the demo ends so I can see what puzzles/traps/events you have seen.  Then I can say whether or not you've seen enough to judge it.  The only way I can see anyone not liking this game is if they don't play enough of it, and that's why I'm curious where the demo ends.

Everyone I know who has played it absolutely loves it.  My friend is a guy who loves games with depth like RPG's, Spy vs Merc, RTS games, games that require strategy and skill.  My mom is someone who doesn't really like games.  Someone who only occasionally plays mario if I leave the wii on by accident.  I introduced both of them to the game and they both fell in love with Limbo.  It scared my mom to death but she still loved playing it.  It's simple enough for my mom to pick it up, but it's artistic and challenging enough for my buddy to enjoy it all the way through.

So I'm saying it appeals to a broad audience and it has satisfied everyone I know (queue sexual innuendo).

Again, I'm sorry to hype it up to such a ridiculous level but I just want you guys to try it.  Maybe I should lower your expectations but say that I strongly recommend it instead?  haha

I really hope that they make a sequel.  Realistically, they'll probably make a spiritual successor and I'd be happy with that.

You seriously expect me to research a game I can't play just so I can discuss it with you?

You seem to be in the wrong thread.  More than a few people here have xbox's.  This game isn't very mainstream and I was giving a headsup to check this out.  I don't see the problem.

Hey, I'm just explaining why people seem to be ignoring your thread. Though you've got three people posting now so that's nice I guess.

i thought it was a great game, didn't like the end puzzles that much, b/c they were more about getting timing right- then figuring something out.  Not sure if anyone else felt that way.

puzzles
beginning- cool and spooky
middle- fun and thoughtful
end- fast and repetitive

not much replay value, I think $10 would have been a better price. Still a great game.

Farley4Fan

I think that's why a lot of people, myself included, thought that it ended abrubtly.  We were waiting to see some life forms and such.  More spooky puzzles.  The industrial half of the game is definitely weaker than the organic first half, but it makes the first half more special I guess.   :-\

Well I already knew it would happen because of a Red Dead Redemption thread I made a while ago.  I just wanted the xbox guys to come out of the woodwork.  Maybe making the title "limbo" isn't the best way to attract the console guys.  I'll think about that before making a non-PC game thread.    ;D

CurdyMilk

The trial was fun, but I won't spend the money to buy the whole game.  I like the ideas they used in the part I got to play.  It is simple yet fun.  Portal was also a good puzzle game.
