I'm so happy this is being made.  I had to sell my PSP along with one of my favorite games of all time (Peace Walker), and I've never gotten the chance to play Snake Eater or MGS2.  I've always heard Snake Eater is fantastic and the premise sounds very cool - kind of akin to Peace Walker.  MGS2 I've heard is the weaker game in the series but I'd like to play it.

But for those who have not yet heard, they are making a 3 game collection of the game's I've already mentioned for PS3 and 360 - not sure about PC.  Now hopefully you guys that have not yet played Peace Walker can experience what I think is one of the greatest stealth games ever.  The stealth is a bit more shallow than say Splinter Cell, but the game is extremely deep on the whole (pun intended, the game is so good I'd let it violate me).  Almost like an RPG stealth game.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/117/1177157p1.html - here's some footage of an extremely shitty player but it's running on PS3

The coop is really good but I never got to play it because you needed people with PSP's (who has a PSP anyway?) and the game to play it locally.  Now we can use the good ole internet (what a concept!) to hook up with buddies for a cooperative romp throughout central America.  They haven't confirmed online coop yet but it's safe to assume that it's there for Peace Walker.

So, yeah.  The best game no one except me played, the best game that everyone except me played, and not the best game that everyone except me played.  In one package, that's pretty attractive.

This sounds pretty great. I've heard a bit about Peace Walker, and I believe I tried to start playing it a while back, but couldn't get myself into the right mindset. Partly because playing any Metal Gear game takes a dedication that you just don't need for most game now a days (try to keep track of what's happening with the story. I lose my place after I first see Liquid fly away in his helicopter in #1.). The other part is because I just can't get into PSP games too much. I don't generally have situations where a PSP is convenient to play, and there are many more stronger games on Consoles when available. Another part might be that my analog nub fell off so it's a pain in the ass to play... ANYWAY, I might be able to find myself playing this.

I've played all the Metal Gear Solid (console) games and #2 is actually my favorite. Mainly because it was the first one to let you hold up the enemies... and then make them shake various items out by pointing a rocket launcher at their crotch (Rocket Launcher optional). The story did seem weaker, but that was overshadowed by my love for Dog Tags... and gameplay improvements..

Snake Eater was a fun jaunt through the forest, and has one of the funniest potential "boss or not" opportunities in any game I've played. I'll hold myself from explaining what I mean by that. Spoilers would be hard to avoid, even if I played clever word games with it.

Off topic, but the online for MGS4 was some of the most SvM-Like-but-really-different experiences I've had online. My PS3 had to ruin my continued love of it by frying it's graphics chip... but that's a whole other story... I recommend everyone should play it. Hiding in a Box with Porno Mags scattered around you (mostly just distracting your own team) holds a special place in my mind. Upgradeable skills (based on how much you used it) was a nice touch also. Some were tedious, but it definitely gave a reason to play with different styles that wasn't as artificial as say, Achievements.
If you haven't noticed, I'm REALLY good at making a simple response into a wall of text.

I'm not gonna lie, the online for MGS portable ops was super addicting and pretty close to MGS4's online iirc.  Like a certain other game we all love, it has a niche audience and died not long after release.  I would say that PW and PO  made it worth it to buy a PSP, but I got it for free :D

The PSP was just kind of weak.  The games required attention and a smooth driver when you're on a road trip.  I had to sit at home to play it, which kind of defeats the purpose, just to play these fantastic games that should have another analog stick.  Maybe that's not the PSP's fault and maybe that's the fault of Kojima for putting such epic scale/time consuming/ridiculous story-driven games on a Playstation portable.

But that's all water under the proverbial bridge, because now we all get to play them at our own time with our own method of control at home.

Oh, cronky, check ur pm's for giggles
