I think instead of the old traditional count down of 5 4 3 2 1.. , it should just be a blurr effect and then fade to black, cause really thats what would happen if you got knocked out in real life :D, and then when the merc wakes up a blurr effect and then everything comes to light again :D

I think the point of the countdown was just so you could know when you're going to get up...

It's like having a countdown till you're going to respawn when you're dead. Sure, it's redundant to see that you're again "10 seconds till respawn", but the point is that you SEE how much time you have left. You can anticipate how much time till you can play again (which people like). There's many examples of this in almost any game and genre, and also many ways to represent it, but in this case it doesn't seem like there is much else that could represent the same thing without blatantly blasting it in your face with a countdown.

I'd be interested to see what their knockout effect is going to look like though.
If you haven't noticed, I'm REALLY good at making a simple response into a wall of text.

I know I Know. Im just going with the new fad , ie . just like oh convictions, they removed the loading screens.. and that's what kept the player immersed , so instead of seeing a clunky count down, ya just know by the effect =)

Maybe when you get knocked out you could see yourself drop to the floor in first person and black out when you hit the ground. Then after you've blacked out, you would see a quick flash of blurred vision from the ground for every second you're knocked out, as if you're coming back to life. You would also hear your heart beat on each second that passes by. That would remove clutter at the same time as making it look visually interesting.
