I think this song would be good, if it didn't sound like a pholiphonic ring tone for a mobile phone.

If my heart ever heals, I will make sure it'll never break again.

Tal

sounds much much much better :) the only bit thats still abit off is the middle part... sounds abit like a war game... other than that i really like it :)

It still sounds like a ring tone!

i dont think so... i can see myself playing PS with that background music in the lobby and enjoying myself :)

Arg, Gawain, you make something better then? PS is mostly made by amateurs. We've only got Goodkebab as pro and Zedblade as junior in the industry.

The only thing you can do is criticize, but you haven't contributed any real idea on the music. Post some of your guitar work that fits 'stealth' or 'stealth action' or 'something that doesnt suck and is playable as background music'. Record it multiple times, because only 1 melody is not enough. Add some thing in the background, like a bass-line and tap on your mic for drums. ktnxbye.

this is the point: i'm not trying to contribute bad work, because i simply haven't got the qualifications. but to make you happy: i already spoke to a friendly professional musician about this and gave him a demo cd. though he isn't into games, he seems to like the new challenge. but atm he's on some own projects, and presumably i will meet him not until monday (he's my aikido sensei, and i got training on mondays and wednesdays in my home town dojo). i will keep you updated, but i don't want to rush anything.
btw frvge, i already told you that your results are pretty awesome for your first attempts, but they are quite bad from a musical point of view.
peace ;)

However, are YOU qualified to judge my music? If your teacher would say it, sure ok. All three things combined took less than 12 hours to make. Professional music takes hundreds and hundreds of manhours by a larger team with way more experience.

it's just my honest opinion. would you prefer to hear lies? you postet your (quickly thrown together) stuff for discussion, so what else do you expect? i can't give you more "constructive" criticism than telling you directly what i think and sending you about 10 examples of far better tracks (the funny thing is we like the same stuff for this purpose, and your work isn't even getting close to anything of this). the best thing we can do is ask a professional to compose a theme for us, and i already asked the only one i know who has some experience in digital production.

Quotethis is no music, it really sux. don't do it if you are no musician (if you are, you are really bad).
sry but I can't see anything constructive and it's not something nice to hear after you worked for some hours on something. If it's not your taste, say so. Or else state what, in your opinion, sucks. Not like "everything" but more like "the melody between 0:03 and 0:04" =/. If that combines to "everything" that's ok, but then replace that with "not my taste".

frvge dont listen to him man he seems like abit of an idiot... the music is alot alot better now and fits the stealth style and i appreciate the fact that its fricking hard to make something like that  :-\

@ gawain: man ffs will you try and stop being so negative and give some actual feedback instead of your "no it isn't" and "this is no music, it really sux" crap...

total EDIT: STFU flaming me for telling my honest opinion. you make quick progress, but it sounds still like there is no real concept. i miss the tension and there is some pressure on my ears (probably mono effect). you begin a melody similar to the pt stuff, but it isn't developing any further and only consisting of very simple harmonics.

for the sake of a better discussion:  http://rapidshare.com/files/41447562/ps_music.rar.html
for my taste, the first two tracks are a good standard, but something like the 3-5th track is also a possible way. the other examples are just for inspiration and only parts of them are decent for ps (mostly the background and silent passages).
i really hope this will help talking about the menu music, as it's always hard to use the right words for it.

Strings need more reverb.
Drums need more Low end and less mids; dynamics(not sure you can add these with what you are working?).
"Creepy ambience" needs to be a bit more varied, not just the same thing going over and over.

The whole piece needs to be remastered with the mids cut out, else it sounds "tubey".

The intro should be shortened(removed?). Most people don't spend more than 40 seconds in the menu before they join a game.

I love 0:47-0:50. There is a huge hole that needs to be filled between 0:50 and 0:58. Try varying the drums abit after 0:50. Not sure there is much room to do so, but still... try...

Am I late with that post? Been busy :P

add a bit more 007'ish sounds to it, a little bit of techno and shock sounds (you know, those sounds you suddenly hear in horror movies when a character suddenly stands face to face with the killer.) and imo it would be perfect, but thats what i think.:)

Also im still in love with the SCPT music, these are best example of something id love to hear:
