As chaff would in reality not affect some of the things it does in CT (Which has always bugged me) it had me thinking, and the one thing that would scramble all electronics would be an EM Pulse. This would also allow for a fun visual effect unlike the boring old chaff floating in the air. Mild distortion wave emitted from the grenade every second or so would be not completely realistic but pretty neat looking and serve the purpose of visually defining the affected area. Granted EMP usually permanently fries electronics but let's just say for the sake of argument that it's a weak device with limited area of effect and no real ability to permanently damage electronics.

But then it should take down the mercs hud just like a hs with the tazer...

Chaff used to do that in PT.

I like the idea. It could replace chaff one-on-one. Saves us legal things in naming. yay.

Overstatement

Chaff is awesome pretty if you look closely. An UE3 verison of chaff would be something I'd look forward to.

And it would still work through walls, YAY!!!

As far as explaining it, you can think of all kinds of weird explanations. Maybe the merc's armor has EMP shielding or countermeasures.

It's a sci-fi game where people have a special bodysuit that turns them transparent. I mean wtf?

Things don't have to be 100% logical or realistic, it's just a game and we make choices for balance reasons.

don't forget the coolness factor!

Well camo suits exist. Of course not in civil, but think what we have, and what the army has.

Who told you that one?

They do exist (camo suits), but they cost A LOT OF MONEY...  How it works is there are REALLY small monitors that also have cameras in them.  The suit is embedded with A LOT of the the little monitors with cameras installed.  Each camera broacasts a little picture of what it sees on the other side of the suit in one of the little monitors directly across from it.  This gives it the illusion that you are seeing what is on the other side of the person wearing the suit, but you are actually just watching pretty much a video of what the cameras see on the other side of the suit.  VERY VERY HIGH TECH, really hard to explain.  It doesn't make you completely invisible of course, but it works really well in shadows and in jungle areas.

Anyways I think the EMP grenade would be better than chaff.   It would have to be a cool noise like a wave sound or electric pulse kind of sound.  I suppose this would also help with copyright issues about naming of the gadgets.  Was it just me or did chaff look like a bunch of little white rockets?  ???

i'd say combine the effects of emp and chaff. the aluminium snippets in the air cause the lasting effect, and the emp kicks in right at the explosion with a larger radius, shuts down the hud and makes lights jitter or something like this.

removing the snippets would cause some balance issues as the merc can't see a possibly bypassed mine, for example museum exe vent mine.

Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet

Well he can't see it's bypassed if he's not there. And of what i figured the emp nade will make some hot airwaves or something?

I want to see a camo suit. hhmmm...I like the idea of an EMP nade btw.

Gawain

i like the idea of combining emp and chaff, so that emp can be used like a flashbang against visions/hud in medium distance. flickering lights would also add to the athmosphere. but chaff shouldn't work through walls gameplay-wise, at least not thrown with quickdrop.

frvge

If was thinking on having some kind of waves emitted after it's detonated that last for the chaff-time. The grenade shell is never shown during that period tho, just like it is now.

Or:

What if the EMP goes through walls and does all the 'work' in disabling stuff, and the chaff is for visuals? Difference with above is that you see the chaff-particles instead of the EMP pulses. I do think that the EMP pulses look more high-tech and have a larger coolness factor, so I personally prefer the first listed option.
