I was actually thinking of having the grenade stay where it was shot/thrown and be the emission source for the distortion waves. I had thought about having it shaped like a capsule and it sort of "telescopes" open to reveal emitter ribs when activated. Anyhow, chaff if you get real close looks like tons of little bow ties in my opinion. Hate the stuff.

oh and yes, the camo suit does exist, if you have a few billion for one. Chump change imo :P

Chaff doesn't stay suspended in the air for 20 seconds either. Something like a constant heat wave distortion in the affected area could be used as well so it's constantly visible and you wouldn't risk glancing over between "pulses" and miss seeing it.

I don't like EMP just because it's been in almost every game set in my lifetime.

Chaff was also in MGS btw.

Overstatement

EMP destroys/disables electronics. Isn't that how it's always implemented? That's enough for me.

I actually wonder if chaff would be a bit better if we made it less visible. I mean we've been talking about giving chaff a boost... maybe making it unseen or harder to see would be a nice improvement.

yeah chaff needs a little boost, especially if we won't make it work through walls any longer.
i suggest two boosts:
-let it make an emp boost with larger radius when exploding that kicks mercs out of vision modes and makes the lights flickering
-let the snippets slowly fall to the ground so that they can't be seen well for some less seconds

What if we made chaff just an instantaneous EMP explosion instead of a linger effect.

It'd make it easier to disable defenses stealthfully because you couldn't necessarily see the chaff (but you'd still hear it detonate), also against a merc, if you chaffed him, the effect would linger for some time, instead of just working while you were inside the chaff cloud, so getting hit by a chaff grenade would be a bit more serious.

plz stfu if you have no idea how an emp bomb works. emp bombs use an ordinary explosion to quickly move away charged particles ("capacitor plates") or compress a magnetic field.
