I have to strongly disagree with Gawain on this one.  Not because I like DM but because I've convinced A LOT of people to play story mode.  It is possible.

just had a brilliant idea: ingame police force lol. it works like this: a reliable person joins random servers just like a normal player and if people are playing dm there he bans their cd key from the mod.  ;D  :o
You make me feel embarassed for reading your stupid posts.
you may have noticed the smileys as some form of irony indicator...

i don't know of a single dm player who got anywhere near good in story mode.

just to clarify myself:
-n00b: person who makes up his own rules (eg dm, custom settings) in order to have some success at the game without working on his skills
-newb/newcomer: person new to the game
i really support helping newcomers, but doing additional work for n00bs is just stupid. it's really all about the question if it's more effective to have dm as a filter or not attracting n00bs in the first place.

Overstatement

Do we really want to talk about this again?

Even though I didnt know the spy trap emf thing I enjoy DM more but im really good at both, just not the PC version ;)

As for the police force thing. That'd be cool to watch out for cheaters and glitchers, I'd happily waste my time doing that! I'm one of those wierd people who get off (not literally!) on watch people play video games, its interesting...

A lot if deathmatch players are INCREDIBLY good at distracting/killing/neutralizing mercs or spies.  So, they can be good at story.  Atleast the ones I've played with.  Usually they just go do their thing and take out mercs while I sneak around and get objectives.  So, maybe they don't play story the way you are technically supposed to, but they get the job done in a different way.  Eventually they get the hang of taking objectives and get to be great aggro players.

And people who play both DM and story are not noobs by your logic, a lot of people play both.

T2C LeBron

No death match people were completely noobs and it shouldn't be allowed at all because it is pointless.  They are usually the "kiddies" or the people that could learn story but though dm sounded better so stuck with that.

I think there should be something that allows you to report if someone is cheating.

There are a lot of people who were noobs at story that played DM, agreed.  But there were a lot that were great killers.  They may not have been as tactical or as smart as other players, but they certainly knew how to take mercs out.  Don't think I am talking about every DM player, hell no.  I'd say most were total kids who only wanted to take off berserk and put on lethal drop lol  But there were a bunch of people who played with regular rules who were just plain good at grabbing mercs or killing spies.

In the end, I don't think there should be DM.  Only for the reason that it is for vets like us who really prefer story mode.

So far as I know, this project was not started with anyone thinking about a death match game mode. That however does not mean if there is ample time and willing developers it should be discarded as a possible game mode.

People who play death match are not always morons. Talk to a few of them, they are either screwing around waiting for a partner or they have never been able to lock down a solid partner and just can't enjoy the standard game mode due to this fact. Yeah, some people are... undesirable but the attitude displayed towards DM players as a whole fosters a disdain that is then reciprocated in kind by the DM players.

So what if they like to play CT as DM? Who cares? If they don't play because of no DM they won't be in your standard match because they won't enjoy playing it therefor won't play at all. If they play and they are in a death match game they aren't affecting you that way either. The number of DM players joining a standard match and requesting you switch to DM are a negligible percentage.

InvisibleMan999

First part of discouraging DM play is to have a good tutorial. A lot of people played DM because they could never figure out story mode.

MulleDK19

I agree with InvisibleMan999. Both posts.

People will play DM  regardless of the modes implemented. If we remove DM, we will have even more DM, because people will have to play DM in Story mode, and you will have no way to filter it out.

And about the time. People should have the possibility to set it to anything they want to. If you do not like the time on that server, them leave it. No one forces you to play on it. Make your own and set the time yourself.

And them you think: "But it is f****** annoying!"

But just imagine that they were not there. That would not annoy you. So whats the difference in not joining them and not seeing them?

I say we leave in DM and make it possible to change time to whatever wished!

If my heart ever heals, I will make sure it'll never break again.

if settings can be changed by the host, a server with changed/changeable settings should be highlighted in the server browser.

It already tells you if alternate mode is activated on console.  Is it this way with PC too?
