I don't think anyone can denie that the majority prefer playing spy then merc. I don't hate being merc but I find it realy passif... once you've put ur mines ur basicly waiting for the spies.

So this threat is for a brainstorming on what we could add too give merc abit more control (not power)

My Ideas :

1. Give to the Merc a objectifs (other then kill all the spies) something that makes sense with there "job" like secure the passage of X... where the merc(one or the 2) can carry or push or drive something that the spies would need to destroy or extract or hack.

- For exemple, "Mission Bank" spies need to complete any number of objectifs to get to the vault than containes a micro-chip that they need to extract but at this point the mercs objectifs changes from only defend the micro-chip to defend or Secure the micro chip and was to protect the road(that he choose see idea #2) of a "bank employe"(that the speed is lower then a mercs) up to a bunker or something.

2. Give the mercs of the passifs defences on the map... the map makers would put by exemple 5 cam in the map the merc can choose before the game starts 3 of the 5 that are actif, what laser are actif, what doors are close... etc

-In link with idea 1 : merc choose before the games start the road that the employe would take if it ever get to this point, but in game can only choose is the employe moves or stops

3. this is more a thing for both teams... give them a map with the wall(maybe also the vents and other stuff like laser) this would just make learning quicker... I'm not saying the radar but a map than you can access during the games and see where is ur team8, objectifs etc

3. There is a map already, but not on all custom maps - press F7

I was thinking more of a 3d map like in the single player but nicer where you see the objects and objectif

Hmmm, I think with more powerful feeling guns and gadgets would make it more fun.  Like if you fire a shotgun bullet that shotgun should pound into your shoulder pretty hard.  Sound effects too.  Like better explosion sound effects and make the guns louder.

Make the guns have a reflection on the metallic areas of the gun.  When you are running I think your gun should wobble a little more.

Cool effects like shell shock or blurring the screen would make it a little more enjoyable.

Maybe when you fire a grenade your reload one into the launcher pretty quick with your hand.

IMO if you make the presentation for mercs better then it will be a little more fun to play as them.

I find merc equally as fun as spy, and sometimes moreso.

#1:  It's because you ALWAYS host, gmo host-whore, and therefore can kill things more effectively than I, even WITH my 1337 skilz.

#2:  It's also because you can't finish when you're a spy.

gmo jk ?

pwnt  :D

It doesn't always depend on skill for how much fun you have.  When I got PT I sucked at spy and merc but I still liked to play both.

I LOVE to play as merc because it gives you an awesome experience that NO other FPS can.  In what other game can you hunt down real spies played by real people?  I think it's awesome.  Just a better presentation is really all I can ask for plus some more gadgets/features.  I love to play both sides, but again, better presentation + more fun gadgets and maps is what I would like.

i don't want fancy effects like in the "next-gen" console bullshit games.
if you want to make for a more intense merc gameplay, find a way that patroulling is more effective than switching between some camping points and waiting for the spies to start hacking (it's already slightely more effective to cover aggressively and to hunt spies into mines/traps/mate, but you can pwn mid skilled with camping easily).
this can obviously be achieved with better map design, eg less spy-only-routes like vents, neither central camping points (aquarius, warehouse,...) nor run-in-a-circle layouts (like polar and museum), more shadows, disk hunt and bomb objectives etc
camo as a counter to camnet is also a positive change.

Move to the east coast so euros don't get 300 ping on your server, and then you can host. kk?

I never found merc rounds boring unless playing against noob spies.

Against good spies,   the silence is intimidating.

What about changing maps? Doors that (randomly?) open and close? You'll need to patrol more. If the Spy is hacking, you walk to the obj, but half-way, the door closes so you must take a detour or something. =/

The positive thing is that you'll need to actively patrol the area, so the Spies can't get to the obj in the first place. So camping will be less effective I think.

Just brain-storming.

Make the maps more route-filled, with some bigger rooms that have LOTS of shadows and say 3 objectives in each big room.

kokafan, go and play more factory ^^

i don't think there's a problem at high levels of skill. but games at middle skill tend to result in camping. mt whoring is also a problem of middle skilled players.

Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet

Can using only normal vision be called 'whoring' it?
I know a guy who doesn't use visions cause he thinks his skill will lower...
And note that he plays DM 90% of the time.

Gawain

lol
maybe i shouldn't shoot and only charge, otherwise i lower my skill XD
