The problem with new ideas is that it's very hard to give new ones, not knowing at what stage of production the game is right now. I also proposed some time ago, that devs should ask us from time to time about things theyre not sure - like the Blizzard does.

No.  Direction=/=pinpointing.  For example you could hear something from Pirates room coming from tech room.  You could hear that the noise came from tech room, that's the direction, but you can't tell where from tech room, that's pinpointing.

When the sound is properly made, and there are no obstacles like walls, you can pinpoint it.

There will be walls for the sake of gameplay, so yes, there will be lots of pinpointing.

lol, there are walls in every sc map.  Except for a few areas.

if there is one useful thing that could be discussed here, it's the mercs' sound reticule. there's probably way room to improve its balance...

Normally, you can't really hear stuff if it's not loud and if it's blocked by a wall. CT's sound is highly unrealistic. Especially with the wrong EAX implementation.
If there's sound in Tech and you're in Pirate, you shouldn't even hear it. And I doubt the reticle will ping, unless it's a gunshot or an explosion.

That's an advantage to using the gadget frvge.  You WOULD be able to hear things, even blocked by walls, even if they aren't totally loud.  Like planting traps and mines for example.  You'd be able to pinpoint it on your map for a few seconds and it would point you toward the sound.  When using the gadget, the sound that it picks up would be amplified.

Yeah, the sound system is unrealistic.  But is that what the devs are aiming for?  Is a realistic sound implementation?  I'd rather shoot for a balanced one.

Eh, not really.  It's already balanced imo.  What's wrong with giving hbs the alternative of finding electronics?  That's definitely something to talk about.

There's a lot wrong with making it find electronics.

You have visions and audio queues to identify electronics.

It would make mines and traps absolutely useless and they are already ineffective against a careful and knowledgable spy.

It's been explained to you in a multitude of ways Papa. I don't know what else to say... If you don't get it then I guess you just don't get it.

I think your gadget is a bit too farfetched. It's like a no-clip hack. Worse than normal HBS, because that's got a smaller range.

Not sure whether or not you were talking about the reticule or the hbs.  If you were talking about reticule here is my response : It's not only for finding electronics.  It just lets you know that an electronic was planted in that area.  Keep in mind that you can't use this gadget for an infinite amount of time.  It's for pinpointing where a sound came from.  The fact that you can only use it for the amount of time you can use camo for wouldn't make mines useless.

If you were talking about hbs finding electronics here is my response: I agree now that I think about it.  I really just put it out there for discussion and I didn't have much of an opinion on it.

Again, this is not true.  If you were referring to the reticule.

i say no to hbs sensing electronics
and a half yes to the soudns reticule i tihnk it needs some testing, or maybe a side implimentation.

also i cant remeber where i read it but someone said about including one gadget as permanente, i think this a good idea, i find my self in many situation where im either lacking gas mask, back pack or tazer as merc, and camo as spy.

if mercs always had one of the above mentioned and spy always had camo it would be kinda cool

also we could have the possiblity of a 5th gadget slot instead, im not sure how it would be for balance tho

Gawain

the 5 / 1 permanent gadget slot idea is actually one of the few suggestions worth trying.
