Since the old good times have been passed, today almost every second player is faking and not using his real account anymore.
Is it possible to make it like this:
-You can create only 1 account
-You can create a clan
-You need to send an invitation to the members who want to join your clan
-If the persons accept it, a clan tag will be automatically set in front / behind your name
I don't think that it's possible because it's running over ut3 isn't it?
All depends on UT3 code. With the new TCPLink, we might be able to add to it, but we'll see about that.
Would be awesome if it would work :D

Agreed, I'm with Agent/necroma (sorry if i spelt it wrong) on the no smurfing thing, although i used to do it a hell of a lot, i've realised how stupid it is. IMO the only reason people fake is because of pride thing, if they get beaten there CT gaming credZ go down, which is pretty lame. Also when ur on your reals, people stay in ur server more cos they get hyped when they play good players. So i think that only one account should be possible. The clan tag suggestion thing is good, how about how it is like it BF2142 where on the logon screen it has a box for clantag, which you just put it in there and it automatically adds it to the beginining/end of your name. That way it could be changed.
Suggestions, Criticisms, Comments??? ;)
bf2142 login ftw

glad finally someone see's my point of view now.. um i know that there is already in Ut3 a option to add a clan tag in ur name under the option " players " , or create a player one of the two.
1 account per IP address. Would someone really go through all the trouble to change their IP just to have a different account? If so, lame. Haven't been a victim of Multiple-Account-Makers (or M.A.M.'s as I call them) ,because I'm new to the PC online scene, so I don't know if people would really do all that just to change their name. Maybe you could click on a button to see what account people have had in the past on that IP address. That way you could change your name if you wanted but you couldn't hide behind it.
Dynamic IP, anyone?
if it's impossible to have the acc related to a cd-key, you will never stop people from faking.
the clan-tag thingy would be great as it's annoying to have to create a new accoun every time you switch a clan.

I have a dynamic IP, and im behind a router, but when i host a server, the same ip is always displayed on xfire. Is it possible we could do it like steam, 1 Account per CD Key?

The only thing that's annoying is the goddamn german and polish dipshits that create a new clan every week. *hint*

I've found that my IP changes whenever I restart my router. Might be the same with you.
I say no. If people wanna smurf, let them smurf, I won't be the one stopping that. What's the frikkin'deal btw, if people want more accounts, let them. Like you have to know everyone before you can play with them, we aim to make it a game accessable to A LOT of people, not the small Versus fanbase where everyone knows everyone, so stop the frikkin' smurfing thought already. I don't care if I play against someone who plays under an other name than usual.
Oh, and you won't need more accounts, since you can simply change your name you use online in the INI files.
TCPlink still requires some kind of program running on a server (that works as a proxy to a database), and I don't feel like making something wide as that (and the UnrealScript code which probably will be a pain in the asS) just for the main purpose to stop people of making more accounts?
Ever thought that there may be more people playing from one IP and I'm probably not the only one that hates to ask for a second account from one IP. It should work out-of-the-box, without limitations.
Sorry.
(PS. Project Stealth will probably work without needing a CD-key, only a GameSpy account is enough, though, I still have to mail Epic about this.)
PS2. Thank god they didn't bound CD-keys to your GameSpy account, and you should be happy about that... and it won't be possible to make either, so get it out of your head.

That depends on what Epic wants, if Epic wants us to keep the CDKey check, we have to put it in, otherwise, you could play with both legal and illegal version.

What do you guys think about clicking on a button on someone's profile to see what other accounts they have on that 1 IP address? I think it's a good solution. People can still change their name if they want, people can have multiple accounts for multiple people, BUT they can't hide behind their name and "smurf". If that's possible, it would all be fixed, maybe.
Nothing that relies on IPs will work, because of dynamic IPs and proxies.

Maybe some player will agree with you, but I don't :-\
I just remember the situation when I joined a server.
After he was going to lose his spy round he just closed his server but in xfire I saw the IP.
A few minutes later another server was opened called something with skilled only and I went on it.
Same thing happened again, he closed the server after his spy round.
Of course, it was the same IP.
That's just lame.
Another point is where I totally agree with Agent, if you've played against a nice team and you add them to your FL, you'll perhaps never see them again.
OR if you play against a smurfer and he's playing bad he wont tell you who he is and if he plays good, he'll.
But i want to know who I'm playing against to see who's better / worse than me.
lol some people want to smurf and be left alone and have some quiet non-talking games after work. the last 6months I played CT, I didn't even have the mic turned on so I wouldn't have to talk or listen at all. ofc that is not a legit reason is it? nah it's all about shame and hiding lol!
There are a few exceptions where Smurfing is okay in my book. But for the most part I hear it's for cheating/hiding and all that garbage.

I "smurf" because I get bored with my name(s)...

No. Its funnier to watch your reactions. I also am sick of getting kicked for just entering a room.
Am I going crazy or are exclamation marks green now? I saw an exclamation mark in a quote, is it green for you guys too?
On topic, smurfing can be good or bad. I'd rather be able to do it than not do it. In fact, it's really not that bad anyways. Can't you tell who is who by their attitude/voice/playstyle/who they play with? Shouldn't matter what name they are under, if you don't want to play with them boot the person/leave the game.

What do you mean "watch your reactions"? And I dont think i've ever been kicked for entering a room on my real, and nobodies has called me a cheater or hacker in ages. I really think all that bs has stopped now. In my opinion when you go on your real players are more willing to play you, people get hyped when they see good players. Also another point if someone else joins (eg i joined your server West, and you were on your real, i'd stay because i know i'd be up for some gg's, whereas i might not have, if i didnt i know who you were). So i think staying on real is overall better for the community (encourages the social aspect, no1 says anything ingame SCCT is taken way to serious (i include myself in this too) and if you were to use your real you could get to know players more easily, instead of this bs where no1 knows who anyone is unless tc) instead of using a fake. IMO fakes are teh reason CT is lacking a social element to it, no1 knows who each other are.

People smurf for way more reasons then that. Each one of my smurf accounts is a personality. It's like a game to me and I definitely don't try to hide who I am based on pride. If I try to hide who I am it's because I'm just messing with one of my eBuds for shits and giggles.
And like Spekkio said, sometimes you get tired of using the same name over and over or want to use a new name that sounds hilarious to get a laugh.
Every game has smurfing, but it's not as noticeable because most big MP games aren't focusing on only four players at a time or have such a small constant community.

I see your point, but i think smurfing is bad for the social element of ct, and it will be for ps. Nowadays, what ive found is no1 talks to each other ingame and its all taken so seriously. I know some players do smurf for pride which is lame. Games are supposed to be social tries, lets try and get people more friendly with another, and plus if other people outside the ps community or ct comm. download the mod weel want to make them feel welcome and stuff. CT should be social game, with only 4 ppl in a server people should be talking, its not like bf or something and plus its just generally more fun when you have a laugh.

Smurfing is ok for me. I do it when I dont want to spend time on answering pointless questions like: "from?" or I just make a new acc when Im bored or playing after break so I can practice. If you dont like smurfing, dont do it and stop telling people what they should or shouldnt do. In fact, you want to force people to talk with you, while they dont want it.

SCCT is the only game ive known where people do this.
You obviously don't play many RTS.
He obviously doesnt play anything...people smurf everywhere but noone gives a fuck cause its about playing and not talking.
PS: There will probably be no accounts in PS so smurfing will enter new era when you can change your name in game

Played shitload of online game, and this is the only game where this has happened. And btw, chainging your nickname in an account for example doesnt count as smurfing...creating a whole new account would though.
playing pt used to be a social event with or without mate, in ct you need your mate. i think it's one of the specialties of svm that there are only that few players in a game and that there is good communication within a team. i'm not for forcing people to play with their real acc or use a mic, but they should definitely be encouraged to do so, maybe by some reminders ingame etc.
I think one acct per person would be nice. Ability to change your name would be good too. (I change mine about once a year). A time delay would be good too. ie can only change name max once per week.

Yes garry , that i totally agree with. !
Guys I already told that such kind of checks (time delays, double account checks, whatever else you guys think up) AREN'T POSSIBLE!
Just live with the fact people love to change their name or something, it just happens, just like there are always people that keep on discussing this.

i thought furge said it was? and why isnt it possible?
Lennard knows more about the technical stuff with UE3, while I think more about the needed server capacity and back-end systems which we would need.
what about excluding certian symbols from names ie '.' (the period)

who in gods name are you =/
Someone new, be more welcoming Agent.
Welcome Aberrance to Project Stealth.
A lot of it isn't possible due to IP changes and all that. I'm thinking those of you who are victims to smurfing (Agent Lmfao :D), should come to live with it unless by some way everyone finds a magical way to prevent IP changes etc... It's out of our hands, from what I can tell. Sorry Agent and others who think smurfing is the devil's incarnate.

When I played a lot, I smurfed, using different accents for different accounts. I loved when someone told me I sounded sexy as a German.
and there is some who do it to be an ass , which is very annoying and also it gives people the space to act like a dick , and seems some of yall have a split personality cause when it comes to playing the game everyones cool and positive attitude , but as soon as they have that anonymity people act like real dicks,
**off topic **
which is why don't support Sclamers, cause its nothing but negative attitude =/.
and on that note , sure its cool that ya have this freedom to be not banned but yall dont have to act like dicks to everyone ,

AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...you must be referring to the "How Do I Shot Web" thread. Hilarious. Maybe you take some things in life too seriously.
I don't have a problem with it being 1 account per individual. I'm just saying I didn't really care too much when I got smurfed, whether it be an asshole or just some1 looking for a game. Probably because my panties aren't in such a bunch, but the devs need to follow whatever they feel like following. Just know this is one of the most non-important issues being discussed currently.

Uh, why?
because lots of ppl would "steal" your name i.e. "Cyntrox." instead of just "Cyntrox"
Let it rest for now, I'm sure I can think up something for it now or later. In any way, this is WAY too far ahead. I think it's best to just get a decent game first, m'kay?

mkay mkay:P and i agree with west, this isnt an important topic, just thought id mention it.:D
I also agree this isnt needed for discussion until pre-release. I was just adding my input while the chance was there.

I say give people the freedom to change their names whenever they want. Those of you who are hung up about "smurfs:" get over it.
The only reason people smurf is because of pride which is lame...SCCT is the only game ive known where people do this.
Thats really stupid. Why would someones pride be broken just because they lost a damn game of SCCT? Its not like you can never show your face in public again or you have to wear a brown paper bag over your head. I think people that smurf because of pride should really go get a life and stop worrying about losing a damn game of SCCT.
