Title: Bioshock 2... anyone else getting it?
Post by: Aj on February 01, 2010, 07:21:25 AM
I picked it up along with Bioshock 1 for $33.75 on Steam via going in on a 4 pack.

I figured I would buy it eventually, so why not get both games for the same cheap price?

Anyone else planning on getting it when it comes out next Tuesday?

I'm probably getting the retail CE version. The vinyl thing with the soundtrack is just cool.
I'm a bit hesitant because of the invasive DRM tho, Even the Steam version has SecuROM AFAIK.

And GFWL sucks.

IMO: Prepare to be disappointed.

The first one was too good to follow up. The combat kind of got tedious toward the end, I'll admit, but I don't see that changing.

Muliplayer looks like a cheap timesplitters knock-off with a few features taken from other games and I will be so incredibly shocked if the game's campaign mode stands up against the first that I'll... do something.

Seriously, sequels are always a let-down.

I hope it's the exception to the rule but I'm not buying it until I've played it with my friends first.

That'd be why everyone stuck with PT, yeah.

I can't think of a way they can top the first ones twist.

However, when I think of Bioshock I only think of that twist. It's not as if they went and put the games back to back in the time frames, so what they could do with it is a mystery to me.

Course leave it to 2k to bring another big twist. So far they've done it at least 2 times in their games (System shock 2, Bioshock) we can only hope they put just as much thought into this one.

Actually PT had better graphics than CT (SvM wise), and Ubi didn't let us play PT anymore, so everyone had to switch to CT.

So basically Bioshock 2 will be a letdown unless it happens to not be one. Right on!

When there are as many exceptions to a rule, such as that "rule" you claimed, then it is not a rule.

I'll hold out because of the idea of being too powerful.  They say you won't be because the enemies upped their game, but I'm not sure.  Rent it for sure, buy if I like.  However there are just so many games coming out.  If AVP turns out better than Bioshock I may get that instead.

I want to limit myself to less than a game a month for this first half of the year so that I have some things to play during the inevitable summer drought.  It's hard considering that Red Dead Redemption is coming out in April, Bioshock 2 in a week, AvP this month, Alan Wake in May (probably a rent though), Crackdown 2 sometime, and others.

This year is a curse disguised as a blessing.

I preordered it on Steam as part of a 4 pack for two main reasons:

1.  It came with a free copy of Bioshock 1 which is $20 normally in stores and which I have heard great things about.

2.  I would have ended up getting it eventually because of my OCD desire to own all GFWL games, so why not get it cheap?

I decided against getting it because GFWL + SecuROM (+ Steam) is too much of DRM. I'll wait till there's a patch. Shame, because I liked the first one.

I preordered BS2 from Steam as I liked the first one and by all accounts
the second one is supposed to be much better. And I like Steam because
then I don't have a bunch of Video games boxes lying around.

The multiplayer is AWESOME!  Haven't tried the SP yet since I would like to beat the first game first, but I played MP for about an hour this morning and it rocks!

You haven't tried the single player yet since you would like to beat the game first?  I don't understand.  lol  ???

Quotefirst game first
He hasn't completed bioshock 1 yet.

I take my previous lies back. It's a great sequel and the multiplayer is a fun halo/timesplitters combo. I thought there was only 1 big sister though who was menacing and would be a constant fear throughout the game, kinda disappointing when I killed her not far into the game.

Also, the drill coulda been WAY more gorey, the drill melee actually sounds more painful.

The game looks as good as the first one, they have a very good attention to detail.
The gameplay is kind of the same but the mechanics of your character take a little getting used to. I've only just started on the single player and first impressions are is it is much the same as BS1. Obviuosly the character you play is different and you see some different enemies but overall it's still Rapture so you shouldn't expect any major differences.

After playing L4D2 for quite a while and getting teamed up with idiots and noobs the single player diversion of BS2 is kind of nice. I haven't played the MP yet but don't hold much hope for it TBH. I will try it eventually but not in a hurry. If you liked the first one you will probably like BS2.

It'd be fun to write a review of this game, cause it's so hard to explain exactly I think of it.

Playing single player only I really only have to say that the story was good, but not as good as the first one.

No Andrew Ryan moments... While 2 had some pretty good parts, just nothing amounted to that in my mind.

--------------------------------
My playthrough consisted of:

-Hard Mode

-No Vita Chambers

-Save all Little Sisters (Good Alternative to Others)
-------------------------------------------------------

Ultimately though I think making Plasmids and Weapons a combo is good and bad idea. Good cause you get to use both at the same time (One of those ideas that you think... "Why wasn't it like this in the first?"). Bad cause it makes most of the enemies really easy. The lack of needing to micromanage (Or lacking if you died a lot like I did in 1) really leads to an easier game. Big Daddies in #1 were a force to be reckoned with. Where as in #2 they are just another enemy. Not really tough, but will take some health away.

The new Plasmids also hang on that very fine line. I spent most of the game freezing people. Kind of a cure all to any situation. Freeze... Shatter. Except for the occasional Freeze Immune Daddy, it made it almost too easy. Hypnotize 3 was also over used by me. Brute Splicer/Big Daddy by your side and it didn't matter WHAT was going to happen, you were going to get out with minimal damage. Add to that 1 or 2 Sentry guns that Have Upped Health and Stronger Weapons via Blue hack, and you got yourself a little army (That I might add... Can find enemies before you can see them).

I like the game, the story was great. Just not as intense as #1. Course that doesn't amount to much since if they used the same cards again, I'd be complaining that they were too similar.
