I'm kinda new to SvM and this forum so just ignore me if this has been mentioned already.
I've been playing SvM over LAN a bit lately (canââ,¬â,,¢t play online, my net sucks to much) and Iââ,¬â,,¢ve been thinking it would be cool if the spies could jump backwards of vertical pipes and ledges, because simply letting go isn't always a good idea. Sometimes you may fall to your death or into the reach of a merc but to be able to jump off a pipe\ledge onto an adjacent pipe\ledge would be useful.
Would give more options for level design too:
Ledge to an air duct or crate, structure, window or vice versa .ect
AFAIK we don't have an animation for it, but it's a good idea. I'll ask around.
Project Stealth: The Sands of Time
I'm liking this already.
I like it too. I instantly thought of maps like River Mall where they forced you to climb the pipe up to the ceiling and then shimmy across the pipe on the ceiling just to get to a ledge on the other side (near fans). This would make it easier to navigate in some areas. Good idea.
hmm, you could slow walk but never jump backwards.. but actually you kinda could but it wouldnt work out for river mal. you could do it for factory , tho i know that.
I did animations for jumping backwards off of a ledge and a few more that you couldnt do in DA or CT, but it technically wont work with pipes, as they are not always attached to a wall.
Animation wise, there are more animations and moves in PS then there is in CT, and although we dont have the same moves as DA...we have some surprises :)
Aw, now you're getting them all excited :P

Dude. Wtf i must see them nao haha
You could do different animation for a suspended pipe.
I approve of this idea.
With games, its never really a question of can or cannot do something, its more of a matter of how much work is involved and if the feature justifies the work.
The same can be said for the quality of the work. I wont be claiming PS is amazing quality with awesome animations simply because to get to that level requires more resources then we have.
I think this is one of those context sensitive actions that should only work if there is a ledge nearby to jump to.

This sounds too similiar to Conviction, which is a bad thing. No movement freedom.

Yeah, like conviction. I think it would help stop any type of strange aggressive play from the spies where they try to KO using the jump move.

Oh, yea, I had a great time with that one ^^
Overall, I like this idea. In addition to pipes, it could be used for ladders, fences, and ledges where there is room below for the feet to kick off. If the spy is hanging then obviously it can't work. It would have to be balanced right because spies should still be more vulnerable to mercs when on these things. Spies should not have a tactical advantage, but at least there is a little more option.
