What do you think about it?
I found it really boring and nothing special if really, didn't try the Co-op yet, but I don't really have any hope for it either.

I find it odd that this is not the first time a game that has a focus on the story does not please you (that I've heard of). I get that video games are an interactive medium and that fun, exciting gameplay should be of the utmost importance (rather than it's story), but I felt this game had it great on both fronts.
It was funny, had a well executed story, and a slew of puzzles that, added with the new pieces they put in (gels, light bridge, faith plates, etc), made the game feel like it's own entity rather than an over-glorified expansion pack. (...I'm looking at you L4D2).
I'm not sure what you look for when you think of a good game, but for a puzzle game, it blew me away.
Plus the developer commentary really gives you a look at how much thought went into each piece they put in. I really like how they seamlessly get you used to each and every element you're going to use without blatantly telling you, "This is how this works...", or get you ready for a section by giving you a similar puzzle right before. A lot of thought went into it's design, and it shows.
...if only I knew that getting all 36 potatoes in their pre-release promotion was going to get me a free copy of it...
Short, but sweet version: Loved it :)

				SPOILERS!
Loved it, no complaints. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the singleplayer, as I expected the same length as Portal 1.
Co-op is pretty fun too and some puzzles are really brain-breaking, yet very pleasing when you get the "AH" moment.
I love how you got down in the old Aperture and learned more about GlaDoS and Cave Johnson (awesomely voiced by J.K Simmons). Besides that, Wheatley is just plain awesome, regardless of him going evil (also awesomely voiced by Stephen Merchant, it suits him very well - better than Richard Lord's voice).
Finished the game in one sit.

At first I regretted buying it but then I realized that they deserve my money.  Sure puzzle games have low replayability, and that is my only gripe with the game, but I'm sure I'll be able to play it a year or two down the road and have it feel new again.  I'll hopefully forget the solutions in that amount of time.  This is how I played Braid and I don't regret buying it.  Also, don't forget the updates/mods/DLC that will come out
But just wow.  The game is amazing.  I felt like I was playing a PIXAR movie mostly because of the amazingly good voice acting, the world feels so real.  Complaints about the graphics?  Why?  The game looks beautiful.  Being slightly non-sober makes the puzzles more challenging and the graphics look ridiculous (try it).
Half way through the coop - very fun so far.  Not quite as interesting as the single player because of the lack of a story.  Seems less funny too.  Some of the humor comes from messing with your teammate though.
Most definitely in my top 10 of all time faves.  The game just has it all.  Hilarious, fun gameplay, makes you think, satisfying, great story, AMAZING ENDING (one of the best ever, imo), cool secrets to find, immersive, voice acting, etc...

I guess I am not a puzzle game type.
Indeed I absolutely loved Wheatley's voice and it actually made me think of Stewey first from Family Guy, and after I did a research on him I actually see him every saturday at where I work on a comedy standup called Rawhide and he is probably the most hilarious dude I have ever seen life.
Puzzles I guess are not my thing, even though I didn't play the first one, I could see the story of the second was good, but for me jumping through a portal A to B, with some added twist, is just not my thing.
Co-op from the trailers looked way fun and the characters you play as ridicilously cute. (Like the long guy get squashed by metal debris and appearing and the chubby one runs to him and hugs him ^_^)
So yeah, I guess it's just a personal taste.
One of you may like Portal 2 and not like WoW
I don't like Portal 2 but I love WoW :)

Great game. The story was awesome too, I especially liked the whole Caroline part. Touching :D

DLC? Test-maps? Hidden bonus maps?
Specifically the air-flow tubes (0:36), I haven't seen any of those ingame?

yeah I thought of the same thing lennard.
At first I thought they were just chambers made for showcasing the game w/o showcasing the game itself and spoiling solutions to some of the chambers.
But the lack of air-flow tubes completely was kind of weird because they did talk about them at least a couple times.  Must be DLC.  Probably will be free for PC, probably for PS3 too, and maybe since its' free for both other platforms it will be free for 360 as well.
I think Valve is pressuring Microsoft.  Trying to make them feel bad and look out for the consumer.  I think that's admirable because Valve truly does not want to charge for it, and they just want their games to get bigger as time goes on.

I used to like RPG's for their storytelling (RPG's in the 90's were pretty much the only games that remotely had a tellable story), but as I got older and saw more movies, I had realized that video game storylines are rather underwhelming. They're usually cliche with very obvious themes and metaphors, likened to a child drawing a red heart in crayon to express love.
Unfortunately, story telling has become an integral part of video games in the 21st century since it's hard to do something new with gameplay alone. This wouldn't be a bad thing if they could actually tell a good one for a change.

As well as, right now in the Art and Design industry, the young audience really is being spoon fed heavily on what they see, they can't take heavy character or landscape designs if it's not something really close to "Our world" concept.
For example, many people will buy Call of Duty series and play Multiplayer on that because it's straight forward, it does what it says on a box.
Games like Mass Effect, not every young kid will buy that, cause they can't really tell what is going on, and even if they do Mass Effect is still quite diluted and it could have been a lot better if they gave the characters alot more....extraterrestrial feel.

The storyline in Mass Effect is just as cliche as any other. It might not be as ADD as the storyline in CoD, but that doesn't automatically make it riveting or brilliant. It just means that it's not as terrible as CoD.

yeah man it's just so hard dealing with the concept that there's an evil alien that wants to kill everyone and we have to fight it. only classy and sophisticated gamers like us can really comprehend what's going on.
it's also hard to comprehend how deep our love for alien girls goes but WE DO THAT TOO

I am not too sure if you are defending the younger audience or offending them, but one thing is certain, just because you know it, does not mean they do.

No, he's saying that the story in Mass Effect isn't nearly as complex as you claim it is.
Besides, I'm not saying stories need to be complex to be good. It's just that you can boil video game storylines down to the same basic theme almost everytime...lone hero takes on the world with a backpack full of guns to defeat aliens/zombies/evil corporations and save the day!

There are only like 26 different kind of main story lines. Getting a good variation of that is important, but hard.

They explain that, and the lack of crushers in the Single Player game when you play through with the developer commentary. They're still there, but they couldn't, or rather didn't, find a way to seamlessly add them into the game... other than heavily scripted sequences. (Remember... you do "technically" ride through one of the tubes at one point)
In at least one trailer the suction tube rips off the panels on a wall. That alone sounds like that would be a little hard to communicate in-game as a puzzle element. Without the panel ripping ability the only other thing I've seen it do is suck up turrets. Which, while fun looking, is just a little too... single use. Of course this is just going by what I've seen. Someone out there probably has the perfect puzzle that would use them in a way I never imagined.
As for the crushers... play-testers just died too much. To the point of not having fun with it anymore. It's a fine line you have to balance with "Answer" and "Execution". It's no fun to play a puzzle game (or any game really) that you know HOW you're supposed to beat a certain part, but you can't actually DO it.
They'll probably be back for DLC. If they do it like Portal 1, then it's be pretty nice (and smart?) to see the advanced maps made out of things we've already had time to get to know, but also (unlike portal 1) add in a few other surprises like these.

Yeah I just played through it with the commentary.  I think they knew some people would notice.
Early on in the commentaries they say something about an "impossible area".  They tried to fit all the levels together and apparently there is something they fudged together but would technically not fit together.  Like an illusion.  Or something like that.
Anyone know what that could mean?
EDIT (some spoilers):
http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/20601/where-is-there-impossible-geometry-in-portal-2 (http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/20601/where-is-there-impossible-geometry-in-portal-2)
I don't know about test chamber 75 but scroll down a ways.  When GlaDOS drops you in the incinerator after waking you up, this is essentially a portal she drops you into.  When you go down and underneath GlaDOS right before the main breaker room (where wheatley accidentally powers her up) you should see a tunnel right below the incinerator where you drop the personality spheres in the first game - where you ironically get dropped yourself in the 2nd game.
But there isn't one.  Pulling from my photographic memory I got from the 2 playthroughs I don't remember one at least.  This guys says there isn't one.  It's right after the commentary node where they mention it.  Makes sense to me.

One word. Playtesters.
ValvE has a bad habbit of listening to playtesters. They removed a lot of awesome things from a lot of their games, because of their playtesters. (Namely the Left 4 Dead series)
"We had... but playtesters couldn't... so we removed it..."
"We had... but playtesters didn't... so we removed it..."
"We had... but playtesters felt... so we removed it..."
"We had... but playtesters got confused about... so we removed it..."

I disagree on that statement because the playtesters did alot of good due to the fact that
I can jump on left 4 dead or Left 4 dead 2 and still play it . Addictive to sum it all up.

Well you get testers in the beta stage and 1.0 stage, when we play a game, especially a multiplayer game, we are still testers cause the developers are releasing the patches constantly.
They say, BE A WORLD OF WARCRAFT BETA TESTER AND GET NEW STUFF BEFORE OTHERS, why? They still release f**k knows how many patches before the real content xD
