Title: Legal Shmegal
Post by: LoChang on November 26, 2007, 12:50:38 AM
I'm just wondering what the status is, or threat of, UBI's legal action against PS.  Obviously (to everyone but UBI), this type of thing has been done dozens of times before with dozens of other games from dozens of other companies, but still, I'm curious if there's been any (and if so, is it continuous negotiation? or one blanket warning?) official communication from the UBI Legal people.

Or was it just a stupid stickied post by a power-tripping moderator to get her freak on?

That is all.

Discuss.

IMO ubi is just totally pissed off that our mod is looking better than they could have ever made it, and it isn't even in beta form yet.  Their panties are all bunched up because they think we stole their uber leet idea.  We didn't, we are making it what they refused to make it.  The devs are picking up where ubi left off and revolutionizing their game.  Of course this isn't splinter cell.  They don't want the community at their forums to leave and join with Project Stealth, they'd lose fans and money.  Which they already have by completely alienating their fanbase.  I don't really know why they even care, I mean, don't they think that their super awesome crowd shit is better than SvM anyways?

Ubi needs to stfu.

I used to like ubi believe it or not.  Before they started doing the shit no one wanted them to do and offering no community support.  All they want is money and they aren't getting mine.  Don't get me wrong I still love a lot of their games with or without community support, but I have to say that I lost a lot of faith in them.

Couldn't have been said better skull. Even if ubi does bring back SvM(might be because of you guys which would be funny) PS will be better.  Simply for the fact that splinter cell games become unbalanced when everyone has played 30-50 hours.  I swear they play tested with idiots.

well, it's hard to get high skilled testers for an exotic game with a small player base. the ct beta was a good step, but i dunno how much feedback they got and listened to.

I have asked for a status update 1.5 weeks ago and am still waiting.

The moderators reported us.  UBI had no interest in us before that.

The moderators have no idea about copyrights, so assume that we are violating it without actually finding out before hand.

Regardless guys,  the project will continue.     ALL art assets are owned by the creators,  and UBI cant touch us in that regards.

We have to be extremely diligent on not using anything that is copyrightable.

Games that have been shutdown before, are because they dileberately depict copyrightable material.  Star Wars mods,  DragonBall Z mods.... etc etc.

Often,  it is just the name or title that must be different to bypass a copyright.

Do we really want to talk about this again?

overstatment, i agree
Same thing with Papa Skull. i used to like Ubi, was one of my favorite devs behind Valve. But then, they went down the tube with DA, and kept going down and down and down. Its like they dont even care anymore. assain's creed is getting pretty poor reviews. Ha ha ubi, you suck.

assassin's was a good game but not the game they made it out to be.  It was overhyped, like most ubi games.

today it's more about marketing than about creating good games. it's simply seems like a more effective way of making money at the first glance because of all the stupid console kids and other blind believers/buyers/casual players.

I apologize, though I didn't use the search function, I was thinking perhaps there had been an update regarding the sticky on UBI forums.  Thanks for the infos!   ;)

Lol, still bias towards console players even though he has never played console competition.  There are hardcore gamers on console that aren't kiddies, kiddies exist on PC games too.  Most kiddies ARE the blind believers/casual players.

I don't want to get into this again though, so just stfu gawain.

Sadly kiddies seem much more prevalent on consoles than on PC.

Some of you guys are a little prejudice against us xbox gamers, don't be hatin, I have dec comp to and just prefer to play it on the xbox there is no reason to get mad.  There isn't many "kiddies" on ct right now or ever was because it is a game that takes skill.  Maybe because your jumping in on a free room or  dm room your gona see that.  Good players played gamebattles a little rank and free room against friends.

I don't really care how you play the game. I do wish that connections could be inter-platform, but we're too retarded as a society to get this goin.

Keep in mind that there was never any threats from Ubisoft, nor do we intend to piss off Ubisoft on purpose or anything of the sort. There was just some confusion going on in regards to what was thought was happening.

It already is,  but microsoft requires membership.  Also,  the game has to support inter platform playing.

only for 360 though....

I am not sure about how it is done with PS3.

UT engine  does have some info on porting to PS3 btw.  How that will be done I do not know yet,  but I will certainly consider it a possibility that we port to PS3 if it is technically possible.

I wonder how many people own a PS3 and would jump for PS. Are you guys doing some sort of free advertising for the mod?

I'm sure there would be a lot of both PS3 and 360 users that would play this game.

There will doubtless be a great number of TC mods and even custom maps for PS3 games that will be compatable with the PC.

Its all very new ,  and UT 3 has only been released in parts of europe anyways so its just a matter of time.

I wouldn't even waste a ounce of time on consoles I think it would cause way to many problems just my opinion (coming from splinter cell xbox player).

A straight port over to the PS3 would not be difficult per say. However, the development time would be needed to accommodate the PS3's hardware. Meaning, depending on how intense Project Stealth turns out to be, it might or might not run well on PS3 off the bat.

It would then be up to the development team to consider weather or not (or when) we would decide (if ever) to allow a port to the console(s).

There are more players who played CT online on xbox and they were probably a lot better than playstation 2 players.  So if you ever did port it you should do it on the box, it would be a lot more successful.  And that's not just because I play 360 lol

Any xbox splinter cell player would be smart enough to know how much better the console version was when it came down to glitches and just generally working, splinter cell DA proved that even more...

It probably wont be possible at all to port to 360 because Ut doesnt support it

That's correct. However, at the moment that is currently only because the Xbox 360 version will not be completed until sometime after the new year. Epic has stated they will do anything possible to allow for content on Xbox 360, but it seems to be a certification issue.

well that was true for CT but DA was terrible for both pc and console.  There wasn't one game i played where i didn't lag or disconnect.  The game was unplayable and it was not in a position to be released whatsoever.  BIggest pos i have ever played
