The E3 video looks like SC is getting back on track - although I won't be convinced until I play a demo.

I am a little concerned about the free running skills sam seems to have developed- it all looks a bit Assassins Creed with a pistol... I like Assassins Creed - but splinter cell should have it's own gameplay mechanics.

AFAIK, SvM will probably not make it into S6. Then again, I follow it a LOT less.

I agree with you here, Ubi have pretty much abandoned SvM as it is too complicated for their current demographic audience of casual gamers...

They tried to dumb it down with SCDA so that it could appeal to the casual gamer - but in doing so it ruined the very concept of SvM, and it was not enjoyable at all - I guess thats when they gave up on it.

If the next SC game has any sort of MP, my bet is that it will be some sort of third person Gears/CoD esque squad shooter - that would appeal more to the masses of sheep out there.

I for one personally like the new forum presentation - much better than the old plain one we have been seeing for 4-5+ years :) 8)

From what you have described, this sunds similar to when my 6800GT died a few years back.. it sounds as though your GFX card is coming to the end of its useful life.

Artifacts such as white dots in lines down the screen, weird glitchyness and eventual bluescreen are hallmarks of the GPU massively overheating.

When this happened with my 6800GT, I managed to prolong the life a little by removing the heatsink, cleaning it up a little (removing dust etc and old dried on thermal gunk) and applying a little thermal paste to the GPU and heatsink.

This helped to counter the overheating somewhat, but it was a temporary fix at best and I found myself having to repeat this step at least once a week until I eventually bought a replacement.
Try the above steps (at your own risk, but the card sounds pretty much screwed anyway).

If its no better then I would start looking at a replacement.

Stick to what you know is my motto, so I would look at a nice high end DX11 Nvidia card to save having to replace it in a year or so.

Something like this looks pretty future proof, this is top of the line...

If you aimed a little lower however and got a good mid-range card it should be able to do anything yout 8800GT can but just a bit quicker :)

Public Discussion / Re: Voice communication options

I dont see a reason why push to talk shouldn't be in as an option.

If one thing PISSES me off about xboxlive (which obviously has no push to talk), is that you always get someone on your team who is trying to play tactically and use voice but you can hear his dog barking, or his mamma/gf telling him off for not coming offline for dinner, or he is breathing down his mic like its a dirty phone call - sometimes these things cant be helped.
Push to talk can get around this as you only hear them when they want you to, and tbh I prefer it for privacy's sake. (i.e my wife asks me for my credit card number or the password to my internet banking while I am in a game then i dont want to neccesarily say that out loud or have to piss about muting my mic)

Obviously for douche's who like to talk trash, or play music at max volume in the background then there is the mute option. But in my experience, if you start limiting voice options people are just goin to start using Teamspeak and Vent as they offer these options.. It happened in SCPT/SCCT, it has happened in WOW and various other games with poor voice chat options.

Then you have the wider problem that you may not be able to voice chat with a random team partner, cause nobody wants to use in game chat.

Well... what i realized was, that in SC:CT after being tazed, the merc has a 1-2 second gap, between "taze invincibility" and "being able to activate gasmask again".

And at that time the merc cannot switch on his GM and is vulnerable to smoke nades or cams and the only way out is charging to a safe place... this is a huge weakness for the merc if 2 spies gang up on him, so i wanted to ask:

How will PS handle this? Will it be the same as in CT or will this be "fixed"?

And what do YOU think about this?

Hmm I am torn over this one.

While I am not in the mindset that bugs should be replicated, I believe there needs to be some sort of compromise for the merc when using the tazer...

Its a delicate balance... How do you change it without leaving one side at a real disadvantage?

I would probably say fix the bug and let the merc use his gas mask, but make it so the merc is slowed as if he is walking through smoke and cannot charge (perhaps even berzerk but allow elbow hit) for the cool down period of 2-3 seconds after tazer use... rationalise it as he needs a couple of seconds to recover from "recoil".

This way he is vulnerable, but not so vulnerable that he can be knocked out with the use of a cheap quick cam.

Spies lights, Mercs Camo? WTF?! Mercenaries get camosuits!?

I believe he means the "camo pattern" or colour... I.e - Jungle pattern, Urban, Snow... Pink and purple neon gangsta camo... (or maybe not ;) ). Something similar is in the PS3 mercenary game MAG. Think of COD gun camo customisation.

Actually thats a really good idea cronky :)

Back when we were porting the UMP maps from SCPT to SCCT I had a play with the "ID Cards" mode that Ubi removed at the last minute from SCPT. They removed this as an option from all maps just before release, but did not remove the mode itself... so you could make a map and enable it.

In this mode Spies fired live rounds rather than sticky shockers.

I was a bit psyched about it when I first tried it and thought it may well be an awesome idea...

I was very wrong, and I understood why ubi removed it.

Playing merc was no fun at all.. However the proposed accuracy impairment was not there so headshots by an invisible spy were happening all the time.

Even with the poor accuracy and short range, I feel as though this would tip the balance too much in favour of the spies in "story mode". If it was ever to be tested out, it would only be welcome in deathmatch IMO.

But I thought you like TF2?

+ It's always to implement the system, can always prove useful in the future, and you lose absolutely nothing and gain maybe a minor upgrade but how do you know you won't need it in the future?

Also, when I mean Katana, I don't mean Katana without the holster, hell you can make a Katana handle and the holster for it can be glued together or whatever, you don't need to create a blade inside, with that said, that means you do not need to make reflections on it, you don't need to make it super fancy(Frankly I just want it black) as well as, if a person has it, just don't allow him to access it and that it.

On Conviction you have to have the code to unlock it, so just make 1 code, and send via PM to your client and done.

Kudos for imagination, but it just doesn't sound feasible to me...

Setting "unlock codes" like this are only really possible on persistent account based gaming platforms like Xbox live/PSN, steam or games for windows live. In these type of gaming systems everyone has an individual account, with flags which allow or disallow the use of content depending on wether or not you have bought it on the account.

Now pardon my ignorance if I am wrong, but Unreal Mod's or Unreal SDK games dont have any kind of built in account system do they. You insert the nickname you wanna use and thats it - no accounts to log in right?

While I am very sure the dev team have the knowledge to create such a system, I dont think they have the resources or the time. They would be looking at having to run an account server 24/7, which is gunna cost them - and then again its a huge amount of work for the sake of making a few pieces of DLC so some people can have bragging rights over having content someone else cant use.

Best bet is to wait and see if the team can implement customisable aesthetic gear at some point in the distant future - something like this will be low on thier priority list though as they are really just trying to get a working release of PS out there which is as close to SCCT they can get - then they will likely start looking at things related to vanity.

You guys should do your homework, auto-download is supported natively, as could be seen in UT3. No reloads needed whatsoever, just join, download and play.

Indeed. I myself have always assumed this will be a feature as it is based of UT3/UDK which has this option as default.

I doubt it'll be a problem scope...

TACTICAL OPS!

Legendary game, totally forgot of its existance...

Yeah and I see your point now, they have a similar game but as it isnt set in the Tom Clancy/SC universe, I dont think they can be touched...

Afterall... Thievery UT did the first stealth multiplayer so one could say Ubi borrowed the Idea rather than created it.
