map artist (using 3ds max) and possibly any other 3d modeling that needs doing

Hi , im reason , and i have 6 years experience with 3ds max . i can skin at an intermediate to professional level and i can unwrap all of my models ( give or take a little wasted space , sadly )

i specialize in weapons but i can make almost anything i have an idea about what it looks like .

i have a portfolio being put toghether so in the coming weeks i will post an update , but if you would like to see some of my previous work i would be happy to provide some links .

also i am very interested in creating custom terrain for maps ; though i havent seen unreal editor 3's capapbilities for terrain i have worked with unreal ed terain and can tell you from experience that 3ds max terrain will always have more flexibility and more functionality and optimization over unreal ed2.x's terrain editor . also lightmap baking and other caustics and pre shading effects can be produced quite easliy , with a predetermined light source that will reside in the map at final completion .

whew , that was alot in technical terms but im sure some of you know what i mean ... basically you mappers know that vertices in unrealed terrain cannot be moved in the x or y planes , so obviously max which handles x, y ,and z would be more versatile and therefore create more complex and perfect scenery for maps .

thanks for creating a mod and congratulaltions on keeping up the good work from the time you began until now and beyond .

Heightmap-based terrain is way faster to render and calculate collision than vertex-based terrain. Every landscape detail below 75-85 degrees from horizontal should be constrained to heightmap, with static meshes blended on top of that to make cliffs and steep details.

That is way more optimized than using x y z vertex meshes for all terrain details.

Huh? I don't understand what you are saying.

Heightmaps are just textures, they make creating terrain easier and allow for better detail. It's not a seperate method. All terrain is geometry, thus all terrain have vertices.

i dont have any uploaded work as of yet , i am redesigning my site and transferring all of my work , but i see youre interested in who i am .

i have been here before , and to be honest i am only willing to join for the team experience .

and yes on turbosquid i have a raging bull 3d model for sale , but i put very little time into it , and if you know yer' guns the release pin is on the wrong side , lol .

Mr.Mic - considering that unreal 3 , your engine of choice uses a mesh rendering system that only renders what you see , not a complete model even if you only see parts of it , the overhead on a finely crafted 3ds max modeled terrain would be negligible . and from my imagination i would say that unreal 3 terrain is still quad based and fixed , so i think the versatility of polygonal modeling woould be a better choice . think it over .

seeing as how i have been misbehaven before i want to offer my congratulaltions that you have the desire and teamwork to continue , the majority of mod teams dont have that .

and i will keep this on the soft side , but if i criticize any of the work in this mod it is not out of hate , jealousy , or any of the things that would make a comment viscious ... it is simply because i know what im doing . any insults or "off the wall" comments flung at me will be met with the same attitude , but after all you are all mature adults , most with degrees from college so with your experience , i dont suspect you will do so .

i wish to be at the least a member who can help out with many many things , as i have been modding since 2000 and have experience with dozens and dozens of mod teams . but once i get some material together on my server i will show you and you can make your decision ... so please dont base decisions on petty criticisms , it will only leave you short , whether it is about me or anyone else , just not a good way to be .

ill be honest ... but before i tell you who i am i want to assure you that my modeling knowledge and vision has expanded greatly as i matured and broadened my artistic side .

i am Dimz .

if you want me to go away all you have to do is ask , but i came back , to be civil and mature so at least i hope you can return the courtesy of negotiating with me on joining the mod . i have many talents and i am a strong asset , though you have misunderstood me since the beginning .

i will tell you a story , but i assume alot of you "kiddies" who hated me back then will still hate me , but i have an epiphany for you : things change .....

i grew up in south boston , an inner city " town " in boston with 2 parts ...

one part is a place called "the point" , where it is safer to grow up and where intense violence , prostitution , and any other vice you can think of happens much less than the other side of town .

the other part is the west end . much like the rappers " west side" it is dirty and a dangerous place to live . all kinds of bad things happen and it is a serverely racist area in the housing projects , where kids grow up on crack and heroin , stabbing or shooting each other in the back streets and selling drugs , only to do more drugs .

now with these 2 parts , leaves 2 parts of me . to sum it up first , i have both , i am nice and i am tough .

but i grew up until the age of 6 in the west side , in the project housing complex and learned to fight , to swear , and to act like a punk .

but then i moved away , and until i was a teenager it was much simpler , fistfights only happened once in a while and everyone talked like a tough guy so rivalry or jealousy about bein tougher than someone else wasnt an issue .

but then as a teenager the city became bigger than just one side or the other , it became both , when the kids smoking crack got licenses it was easy for them to mix in with the good side ... sounds like the story of god and satan .

so i struggled to be a good kid , and abide laws and not do drugs but everyone makes mistakes ... i ended up smokin pot everyday even in school , and i am not lying when i say that i was very bright , most people are . i went to Boston College High sChool and graduated with a fairly poor grade point average , but in the end i learned so much , not just what was in books but about people .

so the ages of 15-22 were the hardest , and this aint a sob story , and not a mob story , but i lived a hard fuckin life , with a high moral commitment and temptations to do bad things tearing at me everywhere . i did manage to hold my gournd and become a good person .

but the thing is i got this fuckin mouth , and with the internet , i found a portal to fuck with just bout anyone who pissed me off . someone insults me i attack till i embarass the shit out of them and they leave , and if they dont leave i am serious and witty enough to either make everyone love me , or make everyone hate me . more often than not i got everyone to hate me . and half the shit i say i dont even mean ... it drives a point and if you sit back for a second , and if i may be so helpful to point out , you have all the itme you need to sit back and look at what someone wrote in a forum , you would see that in between theinsults and anger lies a great truth .

ok so that got deep and confusing , but what i mean to say is that all i was doing by being viscious and insulting and conniving and racist and prejudiced and all the things i am guilty of ... all i was doing is making some waves . something intersesting instead of the "nubsp34k" that everyone in the sc community seems to love . i was a mature guy , i dont talk sill , im serious , and when nothing is serious and people gang up on me for puttin it to one forum member ( and jumpin in poeopls fights is considered a sacriglege in the mod , the streets and pretty much anywhere that pussies dont reside in , you let a man fight for himself ) i took on the whole forum and won . i won because noone could find the answer , noone could say " thats pretty funny , and i understand your point " .

so in closing i just want to say that all the bullshit is gone , i have a grasp of what i really want in life and i will conduct myself in a serious manner , but i now have the patience to ignore the petty stuff like nubbycake talk and bantering for only reasons of ignorance , i am tolerant , finally .thanks
