Style direction?

Alright, we know this is going to be a CT clone...but there is some concern about it looking to much LIKE Ct.

Mostly with the spy look and goggles.  I propose that we completely forget about  the CT spy look and do something entirely new.

The spy visor is iconic and originally....i wont be able to use the same look and make it better....its already perfect.  I need some freedom to to use a hightech direction where spys are not necessarily ninjas in black latex suits...

It will be a lot of fun if i can push bit of sci-fi into it...making the gamel ook  much more original even if all of the mechanics are the same.

It's a good thing to make the style direction public, right now. We need ideas and lots of them.

This is where the project is going:

Our first release will be a clone of Chaos Theory's versus mode, but with our own graphics, code and sound.

The main concept is: Soldiers of today, gadgets of tomorrow. We want to stay close to an urban infiltration theme that's pretty neutral. So there will be no robots, no cyberpunk, no ninjas, no vampires and no Santa. We want a theme that's accessible for everyone and we feel that the concept above will do that.

Some minor concepts are:
  • It would be great if there could be multiple skins for the characters.
  • The faces of our characters need to be hidden.
  • Both teams need to have human characters.
  • The mercs need to be bulky and the spies need to be lean.
  • Use as little as possible designs from Chaos Theory (e.g. the three visors for spies).

Kebab is referring to the last minor concept in the list.

A bit of sci-fi is good (as in "Gadgets of tomorrow"). A lot of sci-fi is bad (as in "Not everybody likes sci-fi"). I'm looking forward to seeing alternatives to that iconic 3-way visor. Would-be concept artists: Prove yourself and inspire mr. Kebab.

Those SC goggles are basically just night vision goggles with a little more tech and a better design. Basically you need a device covering the eyes and a camera somewhere on the body, preferably the head. Giving them no camera and adding a drone hovering around them, might be a bit too much though.

Another idea might be to just get them one huge camera that covers the entire face. It's not iconic anymore, but we give our game away for free so who cares? A bit like Cobra Commander or even Snake Eyes.

Standart 2-lens goggles look cool enough with the proper design.

And a bit of sci-fi is always good, but not as much as DA... that was just a bad move.

MacBryce

I actually prefer one lens like the CT spies, as long as it's different enough.

Daybreak

Well I might as well post my idea here as I think this is where it's supposed to be.

It's nothing mind blowing, it's just a way to make it look different that SvM but still the same.
Cops and Robbers is pretty much what SvM is. Spies come in, steel a disk or hack a computer. And the mercs protect them. All we do is change the premise.

It's also an easy way to create more skins. Standard Cop skins, SWAT skins, Army skins, Future cops skins. Same goes for the robbers.

The premise can also explain for better map locations and for items to steal or hack. Having important information lying in a house or bank can be reasonably explained.

I just thought of it and could make it interesting. Heck, running around doing splinter cell stuff in Jeans and a ski mask sounds like a lot of fun.

What about the hightech equipment? well that can easily be explained by, it's in the future. And the equipment the robbers use, well they got it by stealing it. Ya, they're that good.

hmmmmm good ideas...but...the CT spy and merc look so damn cool.  I like it how the merc is bigger but ONLY slighty and the spy is lean but not so much that he looks like he's on crack (DA spys).  Ahhh it's just such an awesome look, that is one thing I've never grown old of.  The cops and robbers is a good idea though.

Btw, Daybreak and Kebab, how much exactly do you want to change this?  For Kebab, it seems that you just want to change around the basic look and not much more (hence the same game mechanics).  However, Daybreak, your idea is good but wouldn't that change around a lot of stuff since the whole idea and look be would be different?  For example, I can't imagine robbers and cops in Clubhouse.  Or are you just going with "Robbers and Cops" but leaving it straight at that so when a person sees the title they have no clue to expect a very similar CT game?  Maybe I'm delving a little too deep into but I was wondering if you could explain your idea more.

Daybreak

Basically that's all I'm saying. Rather it being a "spy related" game. It can be about cops and robbers. It'll be an exact clone of CT yet, with Cop and Robber skins than spies. That way, it'll look different, but play similarly. It's all the same just a different look. A different design style if you will.

Maybe that's not exactly what we are lookign for but this is after all just brainstorming.

Off to lunch back in half an hour.

VaNilla

I can do a basic design if you want

goodkebab

there needs to be a cool factor ....and i personally love the DA spies and dislike the mercs.
I still want to give the spies the sleek latex look with light body armor and tech throughout the suit...
Dont forget these spies have camo suits rigged into their suit and batteries to run it.

Daybreak

Goodkebab brings up a cool point. We need to make this game cool. It is cool already, but definetly the coolness factor needs to be increased.

Yeah I really would like the cool factor from CT to be in Project Stealth.  I prefer the CT spies to the DA spies by FAR.  I think the DA spies are absolutely ridiculous looking (haven't seen the other skins besides the standard bald headed one).  I also prefer the CT mercs to the DA mercs because they have this unexplainable badass look to them where the DA ones just fail miserably.

The cops and robbers isn't a bad idea, AS LONG as it isn't cartoony looking.  I hate that.  Such as the new Team Fortress for the Source Engine....please kill me.  They look retarded and I feel the game has been killed.

You know, CT is futuristic and all like Kebab mentioned, but maybe we can trim it down a bit just by changing little details to the spies and mercs.  For instance, making the spy have rope around his chest and back-non functional), and having more traditional clothes instead of black latex?  It would give him a more modern look.  Sort of like the old concept for the TF2 spy.

Honestly, I prefer the CT spy look a lot more but if changes need to be made then this is as far as I personally would like to see it done.

Meathead

Thats a wierd looking guy i tell ya. lol

Vega

Oldddddd screenshot from the original TF2 based on the half life 1 engine (or unreal whatever it was).  Just take the general look of the spy (notice the balaclava, the straps on his chest, the modern clothing, etc) and you'll see what I'm going with.

Yeah, I wouldn't like him to look like that. That looks like these guys.
