Possible Sound Reticule for Spies? New heartbeat suggestions?

They basically do the same thing, yes.  But they do it in a different way.  With the sound detector it doesn't detect things only to the left, right, in front, and behind you.  When in fact it detects thing in a full circle and gives you the exact direction that a sound comes from, rather than the 4 direction arrows like the merc reticule.

and wtf do you guys mean by wasting a gadget slot instead of learning the game?  You still learn the game, you learn how the gadget works.  It would help you pinpoint which way a sound comes from.  Like if you heard a door open but you don't know which one opened or what direction it came from, if you had your spy reticule on then you could be able to tell which door opened.

I think that if it had the ability to hack into speaking mercs automatically when they are close to you, it would be pretty cool to use.  Like the ability to hear a merc within 5 meters of you would be a nice new ability for the spies for a gadget.

Obviously, you can hear a gunshot regardless of whether you have this gadget or EAX.  But this would help you see the exact direction it came from.  It isn't always so clear as to where a sound came from.  If you are in pirates room for example and you hear a gunshot come from the general area of tech room and greek.  If you had the reticule you'd be able to tell what room they are in.  This same kind of example can also apply to doors opening/closing.  It is never clear to me which direction a door opens/closes either.  I can tell however, that a door opened/closed.  With the reticule I'd be able to tell which door opened/closed.

Maybe it would make sounds appear on your radar?  Like if a door opened/closed (I know you are getting tired of this example lol) it would show a little bleep on your radar and you could tell exactly what door it was that was activated.  It would be useful if you could keep this on all the time without it draining your battery.  Maybe to balance it you could make it last 35-40 seconds per life.

that makes more sense then it detecting electrical devices, still not sure if it would be balanced tho

Because you know... You won't know what the doors sound like and what door is within audible range... And the gunshots... well chances are if it's not near you it's your partner so that requires a gadget to figure out...  ;)

If you have ears you know what the doors sound like.  The reticule points you toward where it came from.  Any loud noise, doesn't matter if it is a gunshot, will work in this case.

I agree with b1nary. This idea is retarded.

Wow thanks for your good natured opinion.

And I know binary was being sarcastic.  If you read my post I explained something.

Binary never said the idea was retarded. To be a tad more useful, why not elaborate as to why this idea is retarded? We live in a world of justification...so get to it.

it would do as good to the gameplay as a gadget that gives you more armor, makes you run silently, helps you aim etc. it's bs to help players with less experience this way...
there's no need at all to add any new recon tools, just fix the sound so that the mercs can play a little stealth again and the spies stand a chance with a stealthy approach without snares.

Farley4Fan

The point of gadgets is to help the player and possibly use them against their opponents for their own advantage.  This wouldn't be like a gadget that gives you more health or any of that bs.  I don't see how it would.  It's just like the mercs reticule except it's for a limited time use.  How is the mercs reticule like a gadget or feature that would make your run faster or give you shields?

Cyntrox

The big difference is that the mercs reticule is not a gadget. Because you will always have it, there's no point in learning how to play without it.

LennardF1989

If it gets in, it would probably become a gadget anyway. Else it will outbalance the advantage of the merc IMHO.

Gawain

sound interpretation and experience where and when the mercs will appear is part of the game and seperates players of different skill. with a good sound implementation (eg hearing nades shot from mid distance etc), the hbs and spy bullets are way enough (if not too much) for recon.
