Well then you just have one guy who THINKS he's the host.  He makes all decisions and whatnot, but not everyone is connected to him.

MR.Mic

I think the first player to join a dedicated server should become in control of the gameplay decisions in that server. Unless the real admin joins, and then all control is transfered to that player.

Yeah, but the real admin shouldn't be any moron.

Dedicated servers are pointless unless people are going to actually devote a machine to hosting PS games on their own connection.

Some pimply 14 year old leaving his PC on and running PS on his home connection while his older brother is torrenting 100 porn files isn't going to do a goddamn thing.

Of course, we'll provide some 'proper' dedicated servers.

The one hosting the game, I think.

I know I could set up a server while I'm at school, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

I think dedicated servers are retarded. Hosting a server for 4 people is dumb. Plus, it would cause more frustration about maps and the like. Let people host their own play servers, unreal tournament has different code that CT.

Gawain

i would get pretty pissed about some dm noobs using a dedicated server when i want to use it for cw or sumthin just because one idiot entered before me.

In the sense of bandwidth, you're possibly right.
However, it minimizes ping and there's no host advantage. Only 'better ping' advantage, which can't be helped.

Just code the game right so that everyone plays with the same mechanics.

If I am not mistaken it's not a matter of coding, but of connection to games.  Everyone has a fair chance with all dedicated servers.  Of course the guy who starts the dedicated server gets to choose the map/game mode/equipment and he has the right to kick people and reserve slots.  So essentially, he IS the host of the game, but not everyone is connected directly to his server and he receives NO host advantage.  Problem solved.

My personal experience on dedicated servers has led me never to want to play on one ever again. Just being honest.

Well there IS ESSENTIALLY a host, he just doesn't host the connection.  He hosts everything else though, like I said before - game mode, map, kick players etc..

And try to realize that this isn't CT.  It will have a better connection/netcode than CT did and you should have better experiences with this so called "dedicated host"

which sucks....and when the game starts, theres no way to lobby. Unless the host is present.
