voting for a kick is total bullshit: 3 noobs join your "good only" server, and you can't kick them, yeeha...

I agree there.  Sort of off topic but what about if a host leaves?  Would it be possible to give the server to another player in the room so they don't all have to be kicked out?  It's one thing I really like about Halo's online, the host doesn't just leave and ruin the entire match but instead gives it to someone else - usually a friend or random.

I don't see why this feature wouldn't be welcome.

It's still a UT3 game, and you basicly run a local server as a host. If you leave as host, you'll kill the game and all players get disconnected. As far as I know, you cant throwover host rights, since the host is actually running the server (he also opened ports for that).

another handy idea though i think it's technically quite complicated: the host closes the session, another player automatically hosts, and the rest of the players automatically joins the new server.

Farley4Fan

Yeah it could be complicated but wouldn't it be worth it?  It starts a new server with same settings and everyone gets put into it.  I mean it makes the guy he chooses to take over automatically start a new server.  Hard to explain somewhat.

The game doesn't need added luxuries like this. Especially if they are as irrelevant as this one. It would probably cause major loading time/crash. Just make a new server. Not hard to point and click you know?

Farley4Fan

It's a luxury though, if devs have time wouldn't you like to have it rather than not?

No, since too few people have their network set up to allow hosting for each individual game on their computer.

Farley4Fan

THat's true, didn't think about that.  Maybe the host would only get the list of people available to host?  I guess I'll drop the idea.  :D

Nope. I don't mind opening a new room or joining a new room. Really not the end of the world.

Gawain

yeah it's a luxury, and changing opponents after some games isn't a bad thing, too.
yet the pause-option is no luxury, it's a totally new function. if this game shall appeal to any competitive gamers, we certainly need stuff like this (=>replay system, ingame ladder,...).

Farley4Fan

I'd like a replay system even though it led to a lot of bugs in DA, I have more faith in our guys than in Ubisoft.  But a freezing system?  If competitive players are really that competitive they can hold their bladder.  It's not that hard to hold it for 5-10 minutes.  And if they are REALLY competitive, they can just let a phonecall go or not answer the door.  And if they are REALLY REALLY competitive I'm sure they'd rather win the game than have their grandma die in a fire.

Seriously, if we want to grab competitive players, having their game freeze isn't a good way to go about it.

Anyway, real competitive players will nto anser the phone if it rings or go to the bathroom to piss... when they are ready to play they just play and play and play all over again.

Nine of ten cases when game gets paused while playing 2 vs. 2 ranked games in Supreme Commander is due to techical problems. Each second has a great effect in the outcome, so in order make sure none goes by it has a pause. SvM is also an intensive game concept, and most important functions in that game are being counted by seconds as well.

And I'm not sure that the spy will go piss at the bathroom during the mission...
