Hi all,

As I'm investigating cross-platform stuff, I'm actually wondering on what kind of OS you guys would like to run PS.

Our main aim, ofcourse, is Windows. Although, with the Linux/Mac OS X clients coming up, we have to keep those in mind as well.

Please vote on the OS you, with all your heart, want to use for PS. If you're a hardcore Linux user, I could imagine you would vote Linux.

Lennard

PS. It's only allowed to choose 1 OS, this is for organisations sake on my part.

There's no UT3 announced for iPhone nor MS-DOS. So those options are not available.

lol... just kidding i voted for windows. i just think its funny how some console noobs think that consoles are more powerfull than high-end desktop computers.

How do you imagine having the devs port a _shooter_ (ok, it's just 1/2 of a shooter) to a _console_ where you play with a _pad_. Sickos.

Well, we "could" port it to XBOX360 and PS3, though, I don't have either of those consoles, so debugging would be impossible.

Second, Microsoft is being a bitch for UT3 mods.
Third, PS3 is still crapping about the sound (so we can make the mod for PS3, only without our own sounds).

So, consoles are a no for now. If we win a license or the consoles stop bitching, we could reconsider again.

As said, Windows is our main aim, but ofcourse we want everything to work just fine on other OS' as well, although, it won't have the highest priority (we'll keep it in mind when developing 3rd party stuff, if any, though).

People who use Linux are retarded.
Guess what this server runs... CentOS... =]

Dedicated server for PS will probably only run on Linux. Why? Windows licenses for datacenter usage are really expensive, so there aren't many cheap AND legal Windows hosts for game servers :)
$2,999 per CPU per year. Most high-end game servers are Dual-Quads, so... 6 grand on licensing alone.

Which is the reason why most gameserver providers just use common Windows XP machines, or use Linux.

I guess we have around 50 unique visitors a day and only 14 votes after one day. Please vote everyone, it won't hurt you and it will let me know which OS (besides Windows) needs more focus.

Even though you're a Windows user, please vote on it.

Allow me to expound...

I wasn't talking about people who use Linux for the one (or few) things that it can actually do well. I'm talking about the people who think that they are "sticking it to the man" (Microsoft) by using an OS that is not as widely supported and has issues of its own.

(and, FWIW, your reason for using Linux is that it's cheap, not that it's necessarily better at the task at hand)

Nothing wrong with using Linux as a secondary OS for specific tasks. There is something wrong with thinking you're smarter than the rest of the world when you use Linux as the primary OS on your PC. And since this poll is directed toward the people who would be PLAYING the game, not HOSTING the game, I was referring to that segment of the population.

Of course, it's much easier to make absolute generalizations and see people nitpick at you :).
