This is an important factor that still needs to be discussed about. I had way more intense feelings in pandora's versus mode than in ct's, maybe because the soundtrack was superior (but could have been my lower age and low experience too). There are also some maps with great athmosphere, im thinking about the setting of an old abandoned orphanage, the theater on cinema, the lightning in monolith on museum etc.
I'd like you to post your ideas that enhance the athmosphere to an unknown level 8)

Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet

The voice from PT's cinema on some maps, near TV's would be awesome
"...but this time, you're not alone..." :)

Overstatement

It's hard to really answer this without the map design. It's really a map per map basis and therefore depends on the skill of the map's maker. So the best I can say is cool ambient noises!

Gawain

there's a lot that's not dependant on the map, for example getting a blurry vision if you get hit, playing special short sound tracks when there is action, etc...

Overstatement

Well thanks for trampling over my topic then. Any graphical effects goes in mine!

Gawain

ok, only sounds and map design goes here XD

i played cinema yesterday and thought about what makes the great athmosphere. i think it's
-two ambiance sounds: the biep biep of the security doors, the voice in the theater
-the total silence everywhere else (i hate the rain on aqua and orph n stuff)
-the color scheme
-the discreet illumination

schermerhorn has similar qualities
