i really need a laptop (for university and as a desktop replacement) and some friend told me that he got his via a freebie offer one year ago. do you know any good offers?
i'm also interested in refurbished laptops, but couldn't find really good deals yet.

should be cheap since you dont need a gfx card ...

you dont have any 3d skills to speak of so there you go.
Tell ppl to fuck off over the net, just expect them to want to fight you until they can.

laptops r pretty cheap atm. In england atleast, you can pick up some pretty decent ones for around Ã,£400 over here. Tried ebay and the likes?

i can't really decide whether to get a cheap one for university only or some expensive desktop replacement with gaming abilities.
it's just that i'm getting sick of my loud fat old computer and that i wanna be able to learn university stuff and watch movies, replays etc. on the sofa, too.
considering my low budget as a student, i should probably stick with my desktop and just buy something cheap because of the low resell value of my desktop and the problem with upgrading laptop gfx.
i'm happy for any insightful input on this...

u can get a shitt gfx card and still watch movies dude, the picture quality is the same rofl. :D

you'll end up spending as much on a budget desktop (including monitor n all that crap) than u wud on a laptop.

If I were you, I wouldn't really care about graphics, since you want it for university duties. Besides, using notebook for games is very uncomfortable. Also, when you buy it you won't be able to change parts. My advice is: buy relatively cheap notebook with much RAM, nice hdd and processor, sell old one and save for new PC.

thx neth!
i kinda forgot about the lack of comfort of a big screen, decent speakers etc
gaming laptop would still be sweet for lan parties, but i've grown out of that stuff anyways.
my desktop pc ain't that bad, it's main problem is the bad case making it very loud, but switching the case and going to watercooling sounds like tons of work with a certain risk of damaging the mainboard and loosing guarantees. any suggestions for a good case mod/new case?

if i go for a netbook i don't wanna spend more than 300€ on it and it shoud have a really large unplugged running time and reasonable resolution for pdf viewing. any suggestions for a netbook?

another idea this leads me to is getting a used htc touch pro/hd/diamond/... instead of a netbook which would cost roughly the same, offer a little less resolution but i would have all useful mobile features like wifi, pdf viewing, gps etc. in one device...
