it suggests that you very well know what the damian3k HUD is, and odds are that you have indeed used it yourselves.

Or, y'know, we don't like cheating, so we don't cheat ourselves, and we don't want other people to cheat either.

Just a possibility.

So stop being jackasses and just PM me with it or post it here.

NO BLABLABLABLA. YOU ARE THE JACKASSES.

Never used the HUD, so I don't have it booncake.

um, well thats bull, because emf is A LOT clearer with post-rendering quality set to very high.
I <3 how people return to the  "well Mr.Mic tested it". Fact is, MR.MIC was never very good so why trust his tests?! (MR.MIC if he played would get owned now -.- even if he got back to his original [low] standard)
@ Spekkio:
you tube and xfire screenshots are proof.
the one really saddening thing about you spekkio is that you still define your life by splinter cell, but DONT EVEN PLAY THE GAME EVEN MORE. Thats even sadder than people who still play it and take it seriously. FTR spekkio, you wern't very good either so quit preaching.
Now can somebody stop fucking around in here and just post me the link to damian3k hud. I KNOW that one of the hundreds of people in here, know either (1) damiens xfire or (2) the download link for the hud. So stop being jackasses and just PM me with it or post it here.

I agree. So where are these screenshots of people who you are accusing of cheating?

His tests involved posting screenshots of EMF while in normal/HQ post-render and normal/HQ shadow quality. EMF detail is exactly the same, while MT detail changes. Then, as a fun little game, he posted various screenshots seeing if people could spot the ghost.

But hey, believe what you want. High quality graphics settings must be cheating, anyway, right?

omg, ur rite! im gonna go cry myself to sleep cuz my only life meaning is through sc!

QuoteEMF ghosting is simply a bug abusing. It is something similar to cheating cause it is not fair and against the gameplay rules. I would compare it to escaping from grab when spy is hanging.
EMF ghosting is not a bug; it is simply the way the vision works. The fact that you dislike it does not automatically make it a bug.

Honestly, I like that EMF ghosting exists. The only issue is that Ubi should've taken better care to make maps with that in mind (ie, lighting up ceilings like in River Mall so that you can't ghost).

It is a bug. If ghosting had been intended, it would work well on all settings and would not depend on your resolution. EMF was obviously created to track down spies who use electronic stuff. You shouldn't be able to see a spy when he doesn't use visions, walks slowly on ceiling and you can't see him directly. Ghosting allows you to shoot a spy that is even not moving. That's glitching and it pretty heavily imbalances the gameplay rules.

Quoteit would work well on all settings and would not depend on your resolution.
For the last time, it does not depend on resolution. When CT was new, no one was playing on 1900x1200 monitors; the highest resolution was 1280x1024. Most people ran 800x600 and 1024x768 and EMF ghosted just fine.

EMF always works this way. For something to be a bug, it has to change the way a mechanic ordinarilly works (eg, the animation bug).

People have to get over the fact that a spy can't sit in some corner out and the open and not get spotted.

neth

Good luck with spotting anything on 800x600... I don't know anything about Mic's tests. What I know is that when I played on 800x600 - and I did play much some time ago, it was not possible to ghost.

ok, but let's even say that it is possible to ghost on every resolution and settings...

QuotePeople have to get over the fact that a spy can't sit in some corner out and the open and not get spotted.

It was still not created for that purpose. If it was, spy would become visible after sitting for a while.
Ghosting makes the whole vision complete nonsense. Since game is created with rock-paper-scissors system, there is no counter to ghosting. For every gadget, weapon or vision there has to be a counter in gadget, weapon or vision that works against it. If there is no, then the game is unbalanced.

LoChang

Just because you weren't around back when the tests were done and posted about (and given that the game hasn't changed in, oh, 5? years!) doesn't mean they're invalid and inaccurate.  They were there, lots of people tried to spot the spy and lots could and lots couldn't, no matter what the resolution was.  Like Spekkio says, it was all down to the person being able to spot the details.

I run the game at 1600x1200 with everything set to high and I can't spot emf's for shit, but I know Spek can here and there, tinweasele (when he played) could, and Blackveldt (when she played) could, and her computer (at that time) was less powerful than mine...I think.

As far as Blabla and silly Roberto go, I don't have to defend myself to either of you but for arguments sake I've played since PT and have never cheated on any game whether PT or CT.  I'm very good (or was) in my own right from a lot of playtime and fighting through the last tournament with spekkio to 2nd place only to be beaten by a better team.  I don't call them cheaters for winning; they were just the better team.  We were bested and that's that.

Not mentioning they'd had twice the logged xfire playtime we did.  :P  TWICE!  :)

When I posted those tests, it was found that quality had a negligible effect on the blue portion of the image, and the only visible difference was in the white, which was expanded more.

The following images are each made from 16 averaged frames to simulate the noise with motion blur.

High:

Low:

Yeah the images look different, but what matters in ghosting is the blue detail.

See what happens when I overlay the images and apply the following mask, where white is low and black is high:

It becomes apparent that the only visible lines of contrast are where the white glow effect is, and the blue portions are virtually the same in both images.

Sure there is, it just isn't sitting in a corner with no visions on like you want it to be.

but the thing is the spy should be able to because he isn't using any electronics

but to go into scientific theory of things, the body does produce a little bit of electricity ,
hence rub ur feet with socks on a carpet and touch metal , you will create a static shock.

so in example if a spy is walking around you with no visions on or sitting in a dark corner , you shouldn' be able to see them unless they have thier visions , hence the acronym EMF= Electro magnetic field vision :/.

-Thanks Murdy for da Sig <3  xD

I highly dought, for arguments sake, that the spy suit has 0 EM output while no visions are active.  There's gotta be some electrical stuff operating somewhere in it.

Either way, it IS the way it is and nothing's gonna change that.  Deal with it people.

Just don't blame it on hacks and cheats that people here don't use.

So, what's the gadget/vision counter working directly against ghosting ?

I highly doubt UBI thought about it when they created the game.

Merc visions are unbalanced. EMF has it's ghosting and MT can be used as Nightvision. Using such imperfections is glitching and it doesn't matter if it requires good eyes or experience in the game.

@Mic

Did you test it on very different resolutions ?

Sure, but the point of this discussion is to make sure they won't make it to the PS.
