Hi all,

In our irregularly returning series of: "What Would You Change If You Were In The Dev-Team?" this episode states the obvious question:

What can we improve and how would YOU do it?

Top-3 please, not more.

Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet

*This is meant to be taken seriously... NOT*
I'd put a subscription lock on the forums at about... 100$/ month, then I would hire maniacs who are willing to live on bread and water, give them a place to sleep, quit them from their jobs and put them to work on PS.

Now more seriously, I'd want to see a movement system that allows TOTAL control over the direction of the movement.
That is, say you directly control the torso, and the rest of the limbs moves with it in an intelligent way. As in, you're climbing a ladder, and you don't control the whole movement, but only where the torso is.
If you're climbing a box, and say the moment you put your knee on it (use the CT animation to see) you want to roll left, the torso would get into the animation, the hands would grab the box in a way that would allow the roll to be done, and the legs would somehow push any surface close to "boost" the speed of the spy.
I think this would be pretty awesome, if done right. I know it's probably too late into development to implement that, though ::)

I doubt that's possible without access to the C++ source code. And it's indeed too late, if it were possible with advanced blending. But it's original.

-balance stuff: one-weapon system, no camo activation light flash, no poison mines, ph nades instead of flares
-more interactive/realistic environments: better bullet physics etc
-better animations

better bullet physics

Something Akin to that of 'Counter Strike: Source' for the bullet physics would be nice, it's not as hard to control as 1.6 but Source is more welcoming to more people.

One of the reasons of lag is the use of bullet physics, because the bullet is actually physically calculated. Because of the fast floating point, there are differences -> you miss a shot.

With the simple trace of a bullet, there's less or even no delay.

I like the idea of this post as you are asking the community for serious input into your work.
Don't take it the wrong way but until we see whhat you have all pulled together in one it's hard
to see what needs changing.

Take the latest tick tock, chaff. People will say right now that it needs changing because
of whatever. But until we see it with other environmental considerations like other lighting
conditions it is hard to be definitive on what about it needs changing.

There is no way anyone here, EXCEPT possibly the dev team, can comment on balance for example.
Maybe the balance is just right, maybe you'll find the merc is too powerfull, maybe the spy is too
hard to see in certain visions under certain conditions. The dev team sees it every day and as such
will miss things others may pick up on.

Sure more maps would be nice but I would personaly rather see and play an alpha version on
one map then have a beta on several maps. You only need one map to get a feel for balance for the actors, balance for vision modes, balance for weapons etc. Maybe get rid of a certain gadget,
maybe keep it as it's critical for balance. Are the merc bullets too powerful? Too accurate?
Are the sounds for the spy too loud? Too quiet? You know what I mean.

Personally I would pick a group of people from here who have alot of play time with CT (as the closet
benchmark to PS for balance) and let them experience the alpha version. Sure it will have holes but at
least it will give you feedback from outside the dev team. At this point I think that is important because
I know for me that an external set of eyes will catch things I miss, no matter how thorough I am.
This group of people would have to be the most serious people here and I would chose them with a pm
and all feedback should be through private forum or set up another place for feedback to keep it away
from this forum. You would also ask them not to mention it publicly or else the fur will fly here from
jealousy. I think you would get quality feedback which would help you perfect what you are doing.

Again, I like the idea of this post but I think it may be a little premature to make serious decisions on
what needs changing. I don't think anybody outside the dev teams has complete knowledge of what you have so far and how you have fit it together.

Well it made me lol.

I meant the first post more in a PR/modding-ish way, but actual comments on the game are of course also welcome.

so you need some fancy headlines showing off how much better ps is than pt/ct? shouldn't be that hard as basically everything is better xD

frvge

No, I mean what can we do to improve your stay here :D

Well, I could use some more ice.  In my drink.

And it would be nice if you could tell me who Random Person is.

frvge

You could ask him yourself.
