I would buy a 20-30 dollar expansion for all the stuff I've seen from L4D2.  Some new weapons, maps, etc, only one year later sounds like an expansion to me.

Ah, shit. Huh. I guess we paid too much for Splinter Cell 3 too... One year and 5 days after Pandora Tomorrow.

L4D2 can not be considered an expansion, nor should it.

It has completely new maps, all available for versus, new weapons, new characters (Each with 4 new voice actors having to record 4000 new voice files).

No one is forcing you to buy. If you don't want it, don't buy it. L4D1 will continue to receive updates.

If my heart ever heals, I will make sure it'll never break again.

I've always thought the problem wasn't the customer's inability to control his investments; Instead the split effect which follows, due to the incompability between the L4D and L4D 2.

It's unbearable that there's a chance we'll meet you in-game.

Yes but CT was from Montreal, and PT was from Shanghai.  It's safe to say that it was in development for more than 1 year and 5 days.  Plus games were cheaper back then haha.  I miss those days.

The compatibility thing they are working on is the right thing.  But the more I think about it, the better we are off to have it earlier than sooner.  I mean, the maps can be a little stale.  We've all mastered the old ones by now, right?  I would like to play this game, but I'm not sure about the price considering all the other awesome games coming out this year.  Valve put their game in hot water with a lot of competition.

This just shows how fast the team can make new maps and weapons.  This stuff could have been churned out as DLC that I would have bought on day one.  Sixty bucks?  Meh, we'll see.

WRONG. CT and Pandora tomorrow were made by Montreal Multiplayer wise., Shanghai was in charge of a single player team, So thus that being said, a single player development team trying to make a multiplayer game ain't gunna fly and thats why double agent failed so hard.

Montreal made Versus in both games. And I'm pretty sure SC3 wasn't in the works while SC2 was.

Non the less I'm going to buy L4D2 even if it costs $70. L4D is one of the best games ever created.

If my heart ever heals, I will make sure it'll never break again.

Annecy made Versus in both games...

All of this was supposed to be offered in L4D. Instead Valve decided to just make it an entire new game. You can see why the community boycott-ers are doing just that...boycotting. You shouldn't say you're going to update the game with new maps, weapons, SI and then make it an entire new game. Hell, nearly 85% of the bugs/glitches still exist. You would think that might be afoucs instead of the weak...and I mean weak...lobby browser.

Like I said, Valve is working to make L4D compatible with L4D2. If that's the case, then it smells like an expansion pack. It can be done with both Steam and XBox, so there's no reason to say it can't be done.

Farley4Fan

^ Yes.  But is BOYCOTTING really necessary?  I guess if it's worked, but idk.

Damn valve for giving us more awesome games. how dare they give us a completely new game in a franchise most of us love only a year later, which isn't just some weak ass expansion but an entirely new game with new everything. DAMN  THEY JUST LIKE UBI!11111

God you guys are fucking pathetic.

Oh come on, Zed, that's not fair.  It's been barely any time since the last one.  Companies should at least give the impression they're making a quality product rather than rushing it out to capture the popularity (and sales) leftover from the last one, while not making any serious dynamic gameplay changes/additions to the last one.

If I'm wrong when it comes out, then I'm wrong.

You want another Episode 3 incident?

And... rushed? It's a completely new team of developers making L4D2. They're a lot more developers on the second game than the first.

Quote from: Papa Skull on June 10, 2009, 04:10:32 AM
It's just so unlike valve.  We all know they release a game, release patches for it, support it, give it DLC and all that jazz, and their sequels and such take a while because they focus on quality NOT QUANTITY.  But, with the recent L4D2, it really seems they are breaking their style in order to drive in some moolah.  Not digging that.  But hey, if the game's good, I may check it out.  I'm not 'boycotting' like a lot of douchebags out there but I'm still stunned and a little dissapointed in valve.
So, let's see. They make 25 new maps, more than 20 new weapons, 4 new characters including more than 4000 voice files (excluding all the ones for new infected, weapons, etc.). They make a completely new physics and animation system, and heavily improves graphics.

All by a completely new team of developers, much larger than on the first game.

Let's see. UT3 could be made an expansion to UT1. Hmm... Fuck Epic. I'm gonna boycott all their games, because I had to pay for UT3, rather than just getting an expansion pack for UT. >.>

I have an idea. Now, since everything from L4D1 is going to be IN L4D2, let's charge everyone again for L4D1 since it's now an expansion.

-.-

Seriously, stop complaining. It's a sequel no matter how you look at it.

I'll likely buy L4D2 even if I only get a few weeks out of it. If I don't spend it on that
I'll just spend it on something else.

more than 20 new weapons,

Awesome.  But not one for the first L4D?

Quote4 new characters including more than 4000 voice files (excluding all the ones for new infected, weapons, etc.).

Oh come on.  These characters are pretty lame.  I hope they have the original 4 still playable or hopefully unlockable for beating all campaigns on impossible difficulty or something like that.  Probably won't.  And again, none of these characters could have came in a DLC pack?

Quote

Those are the only things that couldn't have came in a downloadable package.  Graphics don't look much better either.  I do like the new zombie gore though most definitely.

QuoteAll by a completely new team of developers, much larger than on the first game.

Usually when people get a much larger dev team they are trying to shove games out quicker.

The point is when L4D came out Valve said they would support the game a lot.  Then, when we were all eagerly awaiting new campains/weapons they were developing a completely new game.  OR, they were developing DLC, then decided to full price it.  Kind of like halo-odst.  I honestly thought that the E3 announcement trailer was L4D DLC and then I saw the 2 get slapped on to the end of it.  Amazing.

Do you honestly believe that this COULDN'T have been downloadable stuff not at full price?

And I still will probably get it, just because I love the game and I don't think I can COMPLETELY pass judgment on it because I haven't played it, but it's a safe bet it was DLC turned into a game.

Ep 3? Star Wars?

I was just saying I have an impression that L4D JUSt came out not long ago, though NOW it's been more reasonable, and it seemed to ME that it was a bit quick on the trigger to make a sequel.

Now I don't play L4D all that much, so I was figuring I was relatively objective on the subject and it just seems like they're 'rushing' it out to get in on the success and popularity of the first.  Though, now that I think about it, so what?  If it's a good product then more power to them.

I've been away for 2 weeks, but as far as I know, L4D2 is having a hard time being compatible with L4D...they have yet to figure out several things, which is why there is potential for the game to get pushed back.
