So, just got my entire computer fucked up... Kinda...

I was playing Left 4 Dead 2 one day, and all was fine and everything was great.

I shut down my computer and went to bed.

The next day, I booted my computer, and I was working as usual. Then I decided to take another game of Left 4 Dead 2. And about 3 minutes into the match, my screen was filled with green dots, and the entire shit froze, and then my monitors shut down.

Already at that time, I knew my graphics card was done for.

But I rebooted, and everything was fine again. Played some more Left 4 Dead 2, only to have the same thing happen again.

I then discovered that if I changed the video settings to medium, I could play forever.

I did some testings with eg. FurMark, and the whole screen just went green and wierd on the very first frame, and I only just saw the temperature showing 68Ã,°C.


Then one day, my mom stopped by, and I wanted to show it to her, and was like: "Look, mom, it'll freeze on the very first frame.", then I launched FurMark, and to my surprise, it was running just fine.

I let it run for about 30 minutes, and it just stayed stable at 93Ã,°C.

Okay, I thought, and forgot about it.

Then a few days later, when I booted my computer, I couldn't even get past the Windows 7 Welcome screen without the entire thing turning green.

Then from that point, all I could do was uninstall the driver, which allowed me to still boot into Windows, and do boring stuff, like watching YouTube videos, etc.

It wouldn't even let me compile our code, since apparently, the UDK compiler loads DirectX before compiling.


Anyway, it went on like that for 2-3 days, and then on the fourth day, I woke up, hit the power button, and was eagerly awaiting the system to boot, only to receive the following:

DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK, AND PRESS ENTER

I feared the worst. I checked my BIOS, and got my fear confirmed. It was only able to detect my old ATA disk. My two 500gB SATA drives were gone.

I grabbed the entire tower and drove back to my parents house, to test it out in my dad's computer. The boot disk was apparently fried.

Plugged it into a SATA to USB device, and plugged in the power. It sounded like it booted as normal, but no matter what I did, I couldn't get any drives to show up, and the SATA to USB device could not determine the device type.

Luckily the other disk (PS disk) was completely intact.


Now I've borrowed a small 120gB ATA from my dad, that I use for my operating system.


So to sum it up... My old defect graphics card has costed me:

1x graphics card (obviously... itself)
1x SATA disk (Everything I've made the past 10 years)
2x 1gB RAM Modules


If I can't get the SATA disk to respond, I'm forced to get it repaired somewhere, and who knows the shit it's gonna cost me.

And my account is like $90 negative atm.


I just hope my current system fries completely, so I can force someone to borrow me money for the new system I've already assembled >:D

Some core i7, with 12gB and 3x GeForce 580 "Sample" (I can dream)



Oh well... At least I can use my computer again, and get back to work on PS.

It's fixed. I can use it... There's no problem... I'm just 2 gigs of RAM shorter (so only 4 left), and 500gB storage shorter. And 5-10 years of personal projects shorter.

You mean recovery? The HDD is fried. It's gonna cost me around 6-8000 DKK (around $1460) to get it recovered.
