Can't open .pak file

I just bought Men of War off of Steam.  My friend told me it's a fun RTS and it looked like it was from the vids I saw.  All is going well until I launch the game.  The "Men of WAR" title screen comes up but then a little window appears and tells me "Can't open pak"...  It never successfully launches.

More info - The window's title is "Exception" and it says

Cannot open pak. (resource/entity/e1.pak(eiostream.cpp,155)

I have reinstalled it and I get the same message.

I figured that I would need software that could read this type of file (I've never even heard of it) and googling around hasn't really helped too much.  I found that this type of file usually has something to with registry, but I don't see why I would have a problem with that.

The one Russian-made game I ever buy this happens.  I blame Dread.

I figured that this is the most programming/computer apps/gaming savvy group of people I know (<3)

Help would be much appreciated and a prize may be in order.  ;D

Do a "verify cache", which is different from just redownloading. It should tell you one or more files are being redownloaded.

You will never ever need an extracter of some kind to be able to run a game, as that's integrated.

Ok thanks for the quick reply.  I knew lennard would come to save the day.  I verified the game's cache and after the verification it now it seems it is redownloading the entire game(but you said it is different in some way).  Seems faster but it is still taking some time.  If it is redownloading only the corrupted files, there must have been a shit ton of them or something.

Never trust the update size thing in steam. For me, it's wrong about half the time. Especially in L4D where all updates for me appear to be the size of the game (about 10GB at this point) :3
