Who says they need to shut us down?

They can sue Epic for letting us use their software for copyright infringement.

That forces Epic to shut us down.

It doesnt matter,   the only thing they can do is prevent us from making our mod to similar to CT.

That my friends,  is why I started threads for brainstorming about new visions and moves.

Good find Daybreak!

Also, Blizzard and Games Workshop went through a massive lawsuit over Warhammer and Warcraft having similar characters.

wow...if that first link is true...then we are certainly safe.

"The idea for a game is not protected by copyright. The same is true of the name or title given to the game and of the method or methods for playing it.

Copyright protects only the particular manner of an authorââ,¬â,,¢s expression in literary, artistic, or musical form. Copyright protection does not extend to any idea, system, method, device, or trademark material involved in the development, merchandising, or playing of a game. Once a game has been made public, nothing in the copyright law prevents others from developing another game based on similar principles.

Some material prepared in connection with a game may be subject to copyright if it contains a sufficient amount of literary or pictorial expression. For example, the text matter describing the rules of the game, or the pictorial matter appearing on the gameboard or container, may be registrable."

This goes back to what I said before: instead of getting paranoid over nothing, go consult a lawyer.

I think that the Ubi mods and CM just want to shut down us promoting PS on the Ubi forums.

With that first link, they can't really touch us.

Then there's the matter of where to send the cease & desist letter.  USA?  Netherlands?  UK? et cetera.

goodkebab

we dont have to do anything yet,  but i did consult colleagues in the game dev business and they all agreed that making any referance to Splinter Cell or cloning is enough to cause problems.

Farley4Fan

Hey Aj this is FARLEYFAN, I've been saying F YOU UBI for a long time now lol

Anyways, Ubi can suck my balls.  They suck.

TRUE STORY. No game can copyright an idea of gameplay. Or else sports games would sue other sports game, fps's would sue other fps's, and rpg's would sue other rpg's. That makes the most sense. I say we are just fine.

Guys,  I appreciate your loyalty to Project Stealth.

If you want to help promote the Project,  it is best done by not attacking UBI.

In fact, if we were to say...get sponsorship for the project,  being able to communicate diplomatically is the surest way of having an open dialog.

I just got a PM from Jinx,  and the only thing they can criticize is our "intent to clone".   We of course have not released anything that is cloned, and have the clear "intent" not to violate copyrights.

Also, she explained that UBI is less likely to cooperate if we bash them.

Seems Jackie has been corrected:

"Ubisoft is concerned about Project Stealth due to the questionable nature of its attempt to clone the multiplayer aspect of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Until Ubisoft has addressed these concerns about the project to our satisfaction, we cannot allow discussion about it to take place on the official Ubisoft forums.

First they falsely accuse us of copyright infringement and threaten banning of anyone that even utters the words.  Now its all about wether the Multiplayer can be copywritten or not.

i know goodkebab has said this but again:
an idea is public domain, ANYONE can use it. (im sorry i keep bringing up this game) Fortress Forever has the same class names, and has the name Fortress forever. Valve didnt give a shit, becuase they arent retarded, and they actually know about copyright laws. Black Mesa: Source is using the half-life logo, and the Source name. Valve made them not use Source, to prevent people thinking it was an offical product. thats all. :)

Really...there is nothing to be worried about.  Ubisoft doesn't care about some lone mod team.  The Ubisoft moderators just don't like us.  That's it.  Nothing else to it.

That's because guess who's better???

greenday5494

and by not using Source, i meant in the name, not the engine. if they made them not use the Source engine there wuold be some problems!
