i don't care about the result, i care about the beauty of a good game that only happens when 4 players of about the same level play competitively.
wahaha .. no.
You can have good games against anyone, aslong as the atmosphere in the server is okay and everyone is up for some fun. Thats it.

True, but with such a small amount of players per match, it's hard to keep a good atmosphere if one team is way too good for the other.

How about this (i know it's bs but don't flame :P ):
When a player goes afk (menu command), his controls get turned off and the game saves each players position and timer. Now, until the afk-guy comes back, the playing-players play a temporary deathmatch mode OR they continue playing normally as if he was afk, BUT if he comes back before the match finishes, the game reverts to it's saved state.

Gawain

i suggested a backup system like 20 posts ago, but it's probably to hard to do.

I actually like this idea, the game would popup something like "Player X is gone afk, would you like to play a DM or continue the game?" Whenever the player gets back (depending on time left and if chosen for continue plaY), it would ask if the game should revert back to it's old state before the player went AFK.

Ofcourse, this option will be able to turn on/off by the host.

EDIT: Sorry Rambo, I never participate in this long lasting threads, 'll not even take the time to read each page, so I just read the last page and continue on what's posted there. That explains how I missed that idea, since I would probably said it would be possible ;)

I liked it b4 when rambo stated it, and I like it even more now with the new ideas from liquid and lennard.

Beside that, there should be an option in the ESC menu to toggle AFK-mode, else it would be pretty annoying if someone accidently pressed ESC. And yes, people could spam this, but I don't want to hear that as an argument anymore, you could spam everything, eather this, chat, voice chat, whatever, so it's no excuse not getting it in.

OMG!1! NO CHAt or VOicE ChaT, PPL CAN SPAM IT!!!!<11!!

Well, maybe not.
UT3 offers a Demo Playback system that records everything up. I guess it would be possible to go back in time like in the theater mdoe from Halo 3, but this should be complicated to achieve properly alone (Lennard). We probably have more important stuff to work on than that for this game, but I still like the idea.

Oh, and is anyone able to record ONLINE matches with the Demo Playback Feature??? If yes jsut tell me because I never been able to do that, I can only record Offline gameplays what is completely dumb unless you are a PC Pro Gamer engaged in a few competitions.

the ability to record online games is something even more important.

LennardF1989

The UT3 playback has nothing todo with it, our code is completey written from scratch and doesn't/won't use UT3 features. Besides, saving time, positions and objective states in a couple of variables isn't really that hard...

Xris

Agreed, saving states in variables is very easy.  Thats why web apps use sessions/cookies :P

1st. It has to be set on the Server to allow recording.
2nd. It would be kind-of unfair to spec other players in a game like CT\PS (SAM generally). Even if it means specing them AFTER the match is played, it still is unfair.

Gawain

it would make people learn more quickly, which is a good thing afterall. there may be teams that don't want to give a way their strats, but at least tournaments replays should be recorded and made public.

nice idea, it shud auto record like on halo, and upload to some sort of server, it gets auto removed if you dont save it aswell, it should record without hud aswell. Dunno if u guys have the facility for that.

There is nothing unfair here, you learn everything and it force you to be smarter.
