Please don't hate me for this but I was thinking lately about all the kills I could've gotten if the merc hadn't been a bunny hopping bastard. Not naming any names. *cough*frvge*cough. Just kidding. =D
But seriously, do you guys even really think the mercenaries even need a jumping ability? (I've played Killzone and Timesplitters; neither have jump buttons so I could care less). The mercenaries could instead be given a climb button, so they could mantle onto the the small boxes and tables and stuff they could in Chaos Theory when jumping.
Or maybe just a big delay from one jump to the other? I think that one might be more agreeable you guys.
Or...make it so that jumping can't negate a grab animation. So the spy initiates the grab animation, the merc jumps, comes down, and is instantly grabbed anyway.
Just throwing out ideas. Feel free to attack.
Especially you Agent. ;D

:-[  :-* <3  , dammit you took my idea , but im glad we are on the same page of thinking in terms of

that a Fatty (Quoted and â„¢ of  Iryxian ) merc shouldn't be able to jump or Stand on a rail for hours on end with that much kit on his body.

No to all you Pro rail campers out there IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE, Hence why it was fixed in doubleagent to a certain extent.

-Thanks Murdy for da Sig <3  xD

Why not just make the merc not immune to grabbing while jumping?

jumping against being grabbed is only a problem for kiddies trying to get necks all the time. just make grabbing become more reliable from behind (different buttons for push and grab maybe) and see how it works out before you start taking away the merc's anti-aggro possibilities...

Tidenburg

Rambo, thats a retarded excuse. The merc's anti-aggro abilities happen to be lil cartridges which explode, and even lil'er cartridges which get thrown out of a gun. Jumping wasn't added by the devs originally for this purpose, it was just misused. And to be honest, if a spy manages to run up behind you then you deserve to be grabbed.

What if I enjoy going nuts on a merc like a kiddie singing like a maniac every once in a while?

Yes, Ion i'm starrying at you.

I <3 U

I think its more lag that stops you being able to grab as the merc takes off than anything else. For example when i play on high ping servers, sometimes on my screen I've jumped, but half way through the jump been necked, or if being aggroed by two spies who elbow hit you, it's even impossible to jump because of the high ping. I don't think the jumping will need any "fix" if the netcode is good enough.

I don't know about you Rambo but I've only been grabbed by people better than me, people equal to me, or maybe a kid or two when I was cocky. Most kiddies going happy for necks are either berserked off a cliff, shot in the face, landed on, or blown to La La Land and back.
But this is just my current opinion. I haven't been aggroed by a pro in a long time.

Cuz you'd have to change something else to compensate, or else aggro would be way too easy.

Jumping as a merc is necessary when you're trying to get from A---> B and have to jump to get there faster (like over a rail or something).

As far as rail camping: you don't need to take it out, you just need to give spies a way to effectively deal with it.

Or just give the spy a nife that he can't throw or use when infront of the merc. That would actually be cool, because then you can add some materials like in singleplayer where you have to pierce the cloth or something. But as for on the merc, he can bunny hop all he wants that won't stop you from gutting him. ::)
and no, it won't be "too easy" then, because getting to the mercs back is the hard part. And running around the merc taking blind stabs hoping you'll somehow get a backstab will be easy for the merc to counter with his berserk, charge, or (now) precise shooting.

Ion.67

Fruityman, im going to take that knife, turn it into a giant dildo, and shove it in your anus for saying that.

Fruitless Man

afraid of anti-aggro, nooby?

Ion.67

I'm afraid of you, fruity.

Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet

I'd like this:
If the merc is on the ground you grab him normally.
If the merc is airborne when you press shift (whatever), the spy grabs him and brings his spine to the knee. The merc also has a +5 second for thinking bonus (non-gameplay time).

Gawain

maps where rail-camping is a viable option are poorly designed anyways...
