Different Objectives

In each map, the map maker should be able to define what the objective is.

Example: In Missile Strike, the objective should be to hack into a computer to open a huge door, then steal some documents, then either compromise the missle launch system or screw up the launch somehow.

It would make the game way less predictable, more fun, and a hell of a lot better looking. Better looking? Well, I can see a lot of sweet fiery explosions!

Thoughts? Possible? I think so, as long as there are models for stuff that we would be stealing, and different laptop models.

Gawain

it would certainly add to the athmosphere, but would make it harder for newcomers and would need tons of modelling/animation work...

The problem is consistency. You can use some kinds of meta-things, like special lighting, but that wouldn't fit with some themes. Example: if you decide that there are red flashing lights on the ceiling near an objective, it wouldn't look good in a Stone-Age map, or a map like Pyrocryptic (just making things up), because of the setting (only fire torches in that era).

Actually, that was the "Story Extended" gametype I had in mind. Instead of being able to do all objectives as you wish, that gametype will give you "a story", where you have to complete one objective to complete the other (eg. Hack a computer to open an access lock). I already stated this idea somewhere in an older topic around 8 months ago though (^^.)

Gawain

we have something similar in ct:
-station-based maps like orph
-objectives changing the environment like aqua
if it's done right it certainly adds to the athmosphere and variety, but the first standard maps should rather play like club/factory

What I mean is that, as of right now, we hack a laptop... EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Wouldn't it be a nice change to see us stealing something, or compromising something? I'm sure we can get by with a few extra animations. Make them EXTREMELY generic, and let the map maker come up with the proper model for the animation to work.

"Steal the harddrive and hack the laptop to compromise the mercenaries." ;D

Joking, I understand what you mean, we need more than just a steal disk, hack laptop or blowup objective.

So, throw in the new objective idea's, that would really help us determining what kind of additional models, animations, code and sounds we need.

Gawain

-having the same model for the same 3 basic objectives on every map is good for conherency, especially for newcomers that only played the tutorial before
-giving examples of other objectives that fit the setting better would be very map specific, but let's take lakehouse for instance: steal a boat key and drop it in one of the boats (maybe last objective for your get-away) instead of the usual disk hunt etc

LennardF1989

Actually, we can make any varation on hack, blowup or steal. I actually mean NEW and RENEWING objectives beside those :)

You have to steal some deadly chemical tubes, or a prototype of something or...mutant rats with ears growing on thier bodies because we dont like animal testing.

How about remote hacking, as a new objective?
It'd be cool to just have to remain in a certain area for some time - eg. the spies agency hacker dept. connects through your suit, and you have to remain connected for a set period of time (45-60 seconds), without any useless junk on your screen (why watch the friggen hand when you don't actually interact with it? -DA).

LennardF1989

Could be useful. How about a linked objective? Hack a laptop (in the form of opening a satelite link, opening a backdoor), which will then allow you to remotely connect to/hack a laptop/thing somewhere else on the map.

Or (as well), unprotected laptops which allow remote hacking.

Just to emphasize:
Remote hacking shouldn't involve any user interaction except for BEING there.

EDIT:
Ah, and movement could cancel it (to keep the 'last second' hack breaks)

capture the flag anyone? xD

That was discussed - two teams, one merc and one spy each.
