Yes, it'd make a big difference. By using the laser, you sacrifice audio awareness for visual awareness. As a matter of fact, they need to take away the fact that you can still hear the reticle ping while the laser is on (in which case you can switch back and catch the back end of the sound reticle going off).

I dont' know. I mean, I find that the laser just isn't that good to justify that sort of nerf. I mean I could see removing the reticule for CT MT, that would make perfect sense, since MT is uber. The laser just isn't that effective to warrant that treatment.

And right now people can pretty much already hear with the laser on, you've just got to switch it off fast enough once you hear the ping sound. Basically I'd say just make it less of a pain to use, because it's really nothing to write home about.
So because YOU don't even use a piece of equipment means that it can't be adjusted?

It seems likely that Ubisoft intended that the laser makes you sacrifice the sound reticle. However, due to shitty programming it does not. You can still hear the "beep," and if you switch back quickly enough the ping will still be there. That's bullshit.

Put it this way: let's say a spy is hiding in a dark room. He can search with the flashlight, but that has a short max range and cannot be used with specialty visions. The laser has no max range and can be used with MT/EMF to overcome their shortcomings. According to you, the merc deserves to be able to hear the reticle on top of that.

A tool that will light up spies in a nice red box instantaneously from any range, in any vision mode, in any lighting, and through any gadgets is pretty damn handy. I suggest you try incorporating it into your game more often before saying it doesn't deserve to sacrifice the sound reticle.

I'd also like to point out adding two speeds while pole climbing would be a good idea too. That way, if needed climbing a pole won't set off MT.

also, won't set off a proxy
As far as I can gather, we all pretty much agree on this.

Honestly I do use the laser sometimes and it's seriously nothing to write home about as I've said. I mean, it's decent, dont' get me wrong, but it's harder to aim with the laser out (since the reticule is more accurate), and you lose the sound detector and have to keep flicking the laser on and off, making it a real pain to use. If you lost the SD entirely, I know i"d never use the laser. About the only reason I do use it sometimes now is because I don't lose much by using it, it's just a chore to use it since I have to constantly switch it off whenever I hear a ping.

I'm thinking maybe we should just keep the reticule and SD for the laser but not let people use it in MT or other visions. I dunno. Perhaps I've just never seen an expert laser user, but as I've said, it's never impressed me, either fighting against the laser or using it myself.

That's your preference. I, and many others, use the laser a lot. Mr.Mic calls laser + host uzi a "tractor beam," and I tend to agree.

From a coneceptual game design standpoint, you need to have tradeoffs for advantages. I detailed the advantages above; you argue that the one disadvantage it is supposed to have (no reticle) should be worked into the ability. That's just stupid.

Keeping the reticle but disabling its use in EMF/MT would negate its usefulness much more than sacrificing the sound reticle, since one of the laser's best uses is in EMF mode for keeping track of spies after they shut their vision off.

The bottom line is that you've had 3 people here tell you that they find the laser useful, and I know of many more that use it as well. If you find it mediocre, then stick to the reticle. All I ask for is that the apparent intended disadvantage -- disabling the sound reticle -- be implemented correctly.

Maybe I just don't have enough experience with the laser. I admit I don't really use it much, so my experience with using it against good players is limited. So I'll take your word for it, that it is that good to warrant reticule/SD disabling.
