Don't vote for the last one, unless you are agent, then you are telling the truth. Haha jk.
I think this is a really basic feature that for some reason was left out of CT MP, but was in CT SP. Frvge said this: "Not planned, but we'll see". Well frvge, this is to show you and the devs if it is in fact worth implementing.
For me, there were plenty situations where not being able to swap my firing shoulder was really annoying. If I want to peek out of a corner with my gun pulled but I have to expose my body before my gun, it gets pretty damn lame.
Why not? I don't think it would take that much work, and it's just 1 minor thing that could improve upon CT's basic principle.
Discuss. Now.
Heck no
I don't see why really? I agree you should be able to change firing shoulder. It actually comes in very handy in SP.
It adds unneaded strategy/complexity to the game.

A neat idea. That would be pretty useful, especially when you want to shoot out of a corner, without exposing yourself and moving out of a shadow or into someplace with a lighter background. I used this a lot in Chaos Theory's singleplayer, and I guess it would fit into a multiplayer game nicely, as well.
By the way, hello everyone! I've been a spectator of this forum for a long while, ever since it was created, though after I forgot my password, I couldn't get it back, so I stopped writing. Until now.
Hello. I recognize your name. Are you from the Ubi forums?
The leaning idea is cool. Not really needed, but I like it.
@Blankman: It is NOT unneeded complexity. 1 button while in ss mode that makes it much easier, rather than more complicated, to aim. Why? There have been plenty of times where I want to fire something at a certain spot, or around a corner, but I couldn't because of the way my body was positioned and the way my gun was positioned. I'm sure it's happened to you too, Blank. Ever want to come around a corner with your gun pulled out in case of mercs nearby? Well, on some corners you'd have to expose your body before your gun. Therefore you could be shot before you could shoot them. It got annoying. All those minor inconveniences could be fixed with a tiny animation and 1 button while in firing mode.
Unneeded STRATEGY? Your babbling just for the sake of having an argument.
how about just dealing with a little less mobility / less cover on one side?
Don't need anything complicated, the simple solution is switching shoulders, like it has been said already this feature is very useful in SP, and it would also be so in MP.

lol...WHAT!?
Pressing a button to change the firing shoulder REALLY makes it complex. I mean, how many will get confused with the gun moving from the right to the left!

Hello. I recognize your name. Are you from the Ubi forums?
Yar, Ubi and SCLamers. I was a member of the DoD clan before, but I left due to not playing CT any more. I'm really looking forward to this mod and wish the developers the best of luck with it :)
I'd love to have the ability to switch shoulders, or even to lean, if the animations aren't too tricky to do. I think it's definitely worth it. It could also help to take out some of those hidden mines too.
I'm against leaning. It would allow spy to shoot merc without taking much risk.
Can the other three that voted no please emerge? It adds stratagy, because obviously in some cases it will be better to use left hand and in other right hand. Why can't you just press the WASD keys a little to switch your position, then shoot? You don't always have to come up with alternatives to moving.
How about a system that recognizes wether you are coming out from behing a left or right corner, and switches arms automatically when the weapon is pulled out?
I don't know if that's possible unless we have a shoot-around-corner move. I think that one is planned, but we're still short on animations.
I hope that was a joke liquid.

I hope that was a joke Blank Man. 1 of the nay sayers already emerged. Apparently he's against giving a mobile and agile spy some mobility. :D
I already explained to you why a quick button press to switch sides is better than moving your character to aim. I really really don't want to explain something SO incredibly basic to you. I don't always have to come up with alternatives to moving? No. An alternative to moving would be things like the swat turn that actually MOVE you. You can be completely still and switch firing shoulders. If you continue to give garbage arguments I'll explain it thoroughly.
Here's a quick example though: Ghost Recon. Ever play it? Well it's a game of angles - and it has shoulder swapping. Whoever has the best angle on the target gets to shoot the other target first, before his target can shoot him. Same with this game. If the spy has the better angle on the merc he'll be able to taze him before he even has to expose his body. Of course, CT you can do that, but only on left turn corners. I know you've played CT SP, well I'm assuming, but having the ability to switch shoulders gives Sam the ability to take out enemies around corners w/o exposing a part of his body and giving away his position.
Who came up with moving? I did not.
What i meant is, that you'd take the weapon out on the shoulder apropriate (spelling?) to the corner you're closest to.
Switching shoulders as a button has nothing to do with it.
i'm one of the no-voters.

Seems like that is too complicated. More work for the programmers AND animators. Whereas just the shoulder switching would just be a bit more work for the animator(s). I misread your post, sorry my response sounded so bad haha :D
Rambo, why are you a no-voter? Honestly, such a mechanic is SOO basic, especially in a third person game that includes shooting. Army of Two, Ghost Recon 2 and up, SPLINTER CELL CT Single Player (ffs) etc. Gears of War does a good job of switching to the shoulder that is closest to the corner so you can peak around easier, but you can't switch firing shoulders.
I honestly cannot see why someone would vote no to this. No problems could possibly arise, it's helpful to the spy, hardly any work. I mean, come on.
I don't really see any situation which would require this. All you need to do with the shocker is to basically shoot the merc or shoot gadget/mine. Both of those make noise. Just be a little quicker and you won't take damage. If the merc knows you are around a corner, he will snipe you.

1: Gears of War needed this move because the entire game was built off of using cover
2: CT (sp) had it because a lot of the times getting spotted meant losing the mission, and this was a good way to avoid being spotted while still being able to kill/KO your enemy.
So with this, it wouldn't exactly be needed for the merc because he is niether meant to be sneaky, nor use cover against the spy. I can't comment on the other games because I've never played them and know nothing about them.
Hmm, so it's OKAY to be spotted on CT MP? Usually when you are seen in CT MP, you will be hunted down and killed. Like Ion said, he actually PROVED my point, if a merc sees you he will snipe you. Well, he can't do that if you shock him from behind a corner with your head not showing.
And dude, Gears did NOT have this move. Have you ever played it? And even so, it does NEED this move. Correct? Like you say, it was built off using cover. SPIES ARE ALWAYS USING COVER! What do you think the majority of stealth is shadows and camo? Wrong. Spies have to use cover to sneak around, and therefore should have a move that let's you aim from around the corner in the proper position. Rather than exposing your entire body including your head, before you can get a shot off.
Never said anything about the merc. Although I did in another thread just because it peeked my interest, but it's not needed. For spy it is a good thing to think about for including. You've never played the other games so you know very little about how important it is to have the correct position while firing from behind a corner so you don't expose your body and DIE.
@Ion: You proved my point. If the merc knows you are around the corner and he will kill you, is what you said. So, if you don't have to expose your body on right turn corners to ss a merc so you can gain an extra few seconds of escape time on him, no harm done. Just be a lil quicker and you won't take damage? Seriously? You know how slow you move with your gun pulled out? Any good PC sniper will take you out in the time it takes for you to ready your shot and slowly get your weapon into position. Especially if your head is showing, which it would if you were on a right turn corner.
Yes, but wasn't this move initially meant to be for merc? That's what I thought, if not, then idc if it's implemented or not. But if it's for merc, then I continue to think it's a unnecessary.
No not at all. It was intended initially for spy, then I brought up changing gun positions on screen for merc because I thought it would be a nice thing to be able to choose. Especially for those left handers. But seriously, for the merc it's totally unnecessary, imo I think it's necessary to improve upon simple maneouvers that the spy can perform. Especially when they'll help out the spy and not be overpowering.
It'd definitely be a cool feature. In this game, limiting your exposure when taking a shot is very important. I can't think of how it would hurt gameplay. The only issue is how difficult it is to animate it.
lol. For merc, stupid. For spy, I don't care. I just thought you wanted this for the merc, which I think is useless, for spy however, it could serve some purpose.

It should be quite simple. Just reversing the spy's position. Maybe you wouldn't even animate the feet at all. Just a swap for the side the gun is on. But then again I don't really know. Maybe our animator could give his/her two cents?
Don't see how it could be too hard, in Chaos Theory he just grabs under the gun and pushes it over to the left.
How about, oh I don't know, possibly shooting poison mines/spy traps that are located behind a corner to the right? How come nobody mentioned that?
Didn't someone mention that? If not, well yeah, it's another reason to include it.
So, if I disclude the "Maybe" and the "I have 8 track player in my pants" votes, that leaves it with 80% people who want this feature. A 4:1 ratio of people who want it to people who don't want it. Not to mention, some of the nay sayers of this when it first started would vote "Yes" now.
Just something to think about devs...
My point was your going to be seen either way, whether there is a tad less showing or not.
It's not a tad less showing. It's like 90% less showing. ;)
My point was if you are seen you don't have to expose your body and possibly be killed in the process of shocking a merc for a quick getaway. Also, as just mentioned, would help aim around tight right corners to disable mines/traps...

Thats the point, he MIGHT not know if ur behind a corner if only a tiny bit of ur body is exposed......
Why are people so against this idea, i mean it only adds to gameplay ffs. its just the same as it is atm but you can switch shoulders.
I can give u a situation aswell, took me all of 0.1 seconds to think of it.
"So you're in corridor on museum, the monolith end of it. There is a mine place on the box on the left hand side of mono corridor (as if you're walking to storage). You have no chaffs. There is a merc coming from mono, if he comes out of the door, you're fucked. Right now if you want to shoot that proxy you have to fully expose yourself to be able to hit it, switch shoulders for example and boom, you'll be less than half exposed, and the merc might not see you.
You have to expose yourself 100% either way, except if you're on the right hand part of the corridor, but then again you'd have to shoot, and the merc would come out. Isn't it better to just sneak there on camo and disable it?
No you wouldn't. Think about it. I mean if the mine was on the edge of the box.
You mean like
|
|
|
|--------|) <- mine
|--------|
|--------|
--------------|
--------------|
( (:-:) ) <- spy
It's not the greatest example, but the point is that in most cases you wouldn't have to expose your head to shoot the mine/trap/merc.
the only real use i can see is the ability to shoot spytraps/poison mines easily on both sides, and this is a drastic balance change.
Lol wut? It's not drastic at all. In fact, it balances it even more by not allowing mercs to place mines and traps in places where spies can't possibly shoot w/o getting hit by it. You nay sayers are wayyy overreacting and I still haven't heard one good reason why this would hurt gameplay or not be worth it. This should have been a 2 page discussion at max.
if you can bypass everything that easily the whole defense strategy of the mercs has to change...
Not if they plant the mine close to the wall so that even if the spy HAS switched shoulders he'll still get hit by it.
well if that's possible the only use i can see is to place a tricky sticky cam in a stealthy way, because tazing the merc is easy to do in the 0.2s reaction time he needs anyways.

I mean really if a mine is shootable by the SS then it's generally not a good mine placement in the first place.
I don't put any of my mines in locations where they can get shot (at least not from the entrance that I'm blocking).
i meant with switching shoulders n stuff ::)
Yeah, and you can still place effective mines with good mine placement. ::) Switching shoulders isn't like the total anti-mine. lmao
It is if there is no merc around while you are trying to taze/remove the mine. You'll be able to remove just about everything. Mines are only effective when the spy is in haste.
Couldn't you just have one of those leaning moves? Like in Crysis and most other FPS games. And when a spy takes out his shocker, the view changes to first person for easier aim or something?

Honestly I can't think of many laser or poison mines that people are going to place where shifting shoulders will matter.

No, you just don't understand why it would be useful. Being able to shock a merc from behind cover w/o exposing your head and most of your body is a huge use. Don't be ignorant.
No, dude. Leaning as in letting your upper body hang out, without tripping the laser with your feet. Sort of wrapping around. Do you seriously not know what I'm talking about? It's in a lot of games.
I don't really feel that switching shoulders when shooting should happen during the game. I figured it to be a toggled item in the options menu. I guess it would be nice to switch hands to fire, but it seems minuscule.

you're the ignorant one here. on a good server it's totally np to move a little out of cover and taze the merc before he even realises what's going on.
Why not just make it optional as people clearly don't agree if it should be there or not. If you don't want it you uncheck a box in options with this option / unbind the key to switch the shoulder. Problem solved. It's pointless to keep arguing if it is a good addition or not and if it should be put in or not because of this and that. If the devs choose to put it in, which i'd like a lot. Just make it optional, you can have it if you want, but you can also take it away if it distracts you or anything.

And what happens if you don't end up in a good server, the game might be lagging a little at times and that? if the server gives the host that much of an advantage that he can snipe your head or shoot at it 2-3 times before you can taze him coming from behind cover it's that bad that playing on it makes no sense anyways.

first reasonable suggestion in this thread. just make back to wall move, gun pulling and aiming faster and more flexible.
QuoteWhy not just make it optional as people clearly don't agree if it should be there or not
Hmm, look at the poll. For every 1 person that doesn't want it there are 5 people that do want it. It's pretty lopsided. For whatever reason, people think this would hurt gameplay. It would absolutely not do that. ANYONE that has played a 3rd person shooter w/ shoulder swapping can back me up on this. Hell, look at CT's single player, it would be frustrating as hell not being able to swap shoulders. Say there is a wall right in front of you like this:
..|..
..|..
..|..
..|..
S
S=Spy | = Wall ..=empty space
To shoot something on the right side of the wall, no problem. You have a good angle to do so. However, if you want to shoot something on the left side of the wall, you'll have to move your entire body just to make it possible to shoot that side of the wall. With shoulder swapping, just a quick tap of the button and you can swap sides easily. It's not overpowered. It just makes things a bit easier for spies.
FFS, this should not have been that long of a discussion. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with the move, takes little time to make, and only adds to gameplay. Good lord.
Some people just don't understand. I don't know what to say.

Im not just talking about host, but anyone who is reasonably good with the sniper rifle that can aim, and knows just about where the spies head is when standing or crouching it doesn't require you to be a host to pull a quick headshot when a spies head pops around the corner. Good snipers can take the shot in less than a second, altho it requires a bit of awarness and maybe even some luck. And usually when your going to shock a merc like that, you've already been seen so the merc is looking for you and is a lot more cautious than if he was just patrolling.

Welcome back everyone! :P
The only real use for switching shoulders is the ability of shooting mines and spy traps from both sides without touching the laser. In CT I can shoot virtually any poisonmine or trap which is behind a corner to the left, albeit it takes some time and the risk of accidentally triggering the mine is always present. For the other side, you're gonna have to use your mate or chaff for help. I don't think that it is drastically unbalanced to be able to do this from either side.
shouldnt this thread be closed?

Rambo, is every single one of your posts now gonna end in an accusation that leelu is a sock puppet account. It gets pretty annoying that your just try to provoke a reaction...

well tidenburg , normally i would get along but when leelu starts using my posts out of context thinking im attacking her /him by saying this thread it self is an eye sore, because it left this forum dead , then
i have the every right to defend myself from PMS12.

Ur clearly against making this forum and project seem professional and if others support your attitude then there really is little hope for making PS a decent project that the general public would like.
If ur unsure how to act on this forum Freeman see http://community.projectstealthgame.com/forums/index.php/topic,728.0.html.
Again, acting moderator. Stop it. I target your posts because they're all fucking stupid (apart from your first post about the suggestion list thingy) the rest of your posts have been stupid. You know you're not a noob, and i'm sure the people who've played with / against you know it too, so stop acting like such a wank-bean, with all these false identities and what not. Ofcourse i want PS to look professional. But heck, even the devs "name call" at other forumers, jeez. This is a forum, not a blog, abusive shit will get said, fckin deal with it, and if the general public base their decision on whether or not to DL PS purely on a community forum, they're retards. I always try to be nice to new-commers, unless they're assholes. So stop getting ur knickers in a twist.

Lol if you say so. But i seem to remember us playing earlier today, you were smurfing, they were very close games, my team one, but only just.
a team can one? one's a verb? to one something...
Okay... It's obvious most people want it. Devs, it's a basic move that should take little time to implement. It will only add to gameplay, most of us feel, and it's just something for you to think about. Whether you add it or not, it's your choice. But I'd say we as a community would like to have it, if possible.
Time for a lock, too bad it got so off track.
