Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet

Oh well, I'd happily take a Wii instead of an X360 or PS3.
Even if it's just for Zelda and the new Metroid. And maybe Mario.

tigaer

I've had a wii for like 2 years and I still haven't gotten the new smash bros... fail? All I have is metroid and mario galaxy, both are pretty sexy, but I just got burned out on the wii after renting red steel and not liking it.

Farley4Fan

The new red steel is way better or so I hear.

I just got Mario Galaxy 2 and I'm loving it so far.

I've never played a 3d metroid.  Fail?  haha maybe  I am looking forward to Other M though.  Looks great.

The new Smash bros isn't as good as melee but it's still an awesome party game and a very fun fighter from time to time.  It's awesome but it just doesn't have the same feel as the first 2.  I can't put my finger on it.  It's weird because it has almost identical gameplay, better graphics, and more content - but it's like probably about 80% as good as Melee.

Huh.

If they iron out the controls for Skyward Sword then it'll be awesome.  No doubt.  Hopefully they can but also hope that they go back to regular controls to make this installment unique.  I don't want motion control to become the norm for Zelda.  It would get old.  Fast.

What I'm worried about is that Moto is trying to sell Zelda by saying you can swing your sword in any direction. Like we saw in the trailer. But swinging your sword like that is done by moving around your WII mode at a slower pace. If you want to swing your sword for an attack you have to move it fast in the direction you want to hit.

Now from what I have seen, it looks like you only have the normal swings from any other 3d zelda at your disposal and swinging the sword how you want it wont be possible. Reason: you probably end up triggering a sword "sequence" that is close to what you want to do. I feel this way because even moto had a hard time doing a vertical slash or horizontal when he wanted to.

So basicly, they implement a feature to swing your sword in any direction you want but only so you can open a original door that won't be so original after you've seen it in almost every chamber from every dungeon.

*sigh*

Farley4Fan

I know what you mean.  It would be impossible to make a zelda game where you can have 100% control of your sword and program it to work like a sword.  Would barely swinging your "sword" deal the same damage as swinging your sword like an animal?  I just don't think Wii's motion control is that advanced even with Plus.

A lot of what you said makes sense. You are indeed not swinging in "Any" direction you want. You are swinging in a General direction that the game will interpret as a certain attack.

I heard that Miyamoto's problems were due to some interference, and that on the public floor the game was more reactive/accurate. It's got certain potential. Like they played Red Steel 2 too much and now decided... Hey... Link has a sword... Let's do what they did. Next we'll get unlockable Combos... and cowboys.

This all just reminds me of Oblivion when it was first coming out. Playing Morrowind and finding the fact that Swinging at something didn't actually mean I was going to HIT it was just a travesty to me. I'm in this monsters face... and I am missing with a Melee weapon. Damn thing is going Agent Smith on my ass. They change it in Oblivion... small change... that now you can actually block with a shield, and hit with Melee no matter what. I think I'm getting off topic...

It's a change so obvious that you're surprised they did it different in the first place. Though how they do it is only going to be appreciated by the people who didn't like concept with the older one (In this case TP).

I'm holding the equivalent to Links sword and Shield... and just flailing like a madman.

With this new one though you have the ILLUSION that you are actually in control of his actions.

I like it.

...Probably could have condensed that down to those three words.

EDIT:

Everyone knows that Monkey Island 2: SE was the best thing there though.

;)

Gears 3 was the most impressive for me.  I noticed how they brought the speed from the first game back.  The movement was too sluggish in Gears 2.

Cronky

I think the most impressive thing I saw for Gears 3 was Dom. I'm liking that one person in the game might actually care about something other than Lancer-Sawing some Locusts/Lambent.

Actually coming off as a little messed up after his "Reunion" with his certain someone. ;D

Pumped for Donkey Kong Country Returns. The new Kirby looks pretty funky too.

Farley4Fan

Yeah, new kirby looks great.

I know all these franchises started 2d, but I'm kind of tired of seeing Nintendo just take a well known franchise and make a 2d platformer out of it.  Not that these games will be bad or that they don't belong in 2 dimensions, it's just that after awhile I think I'd get sick of all the characters with a 2d skin.  I'd rather see a new 3d donkey kong but it the 2d one looked good.

That's something special right there. Nintendo does keep most of it's characters that originated 2D still 2D even now because some are just better suited to that. (Look at Mario slowly returning)

Not everything SHOULD go to 3D. It's like I'm sure Pixar could remake all of Disney's movies in their own Style of 3D, because 3D is the Future... BUT they wouldn't be the same, and while some MAY work out fine.... others would only suffer. Hand Drawn, or even Digitally drawn 2D will not, and is not being phased out because of advances in different Animating Techniques (3D vs 2D).

Link, Mario, Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, etc all came to 3D pretty gloriously through their own standings and everyone gave a big "Hurrah!". Donkey Kong came too, but arguably was better suited to the 2D set space. Kirby kinda came over also... more 2.5D with Crystal Shards, and again arguably worked out. Both didn't give a huge WOW factor with their newer iteration though.

You have to know where you are better suited, and where people actually want them all.
I'm looking forward to DKC because it looks like it plays like the old ones... that I actually liked. (Just my opinion when it comes to DK3D)

...It's like putting Sonic, Megaman, Mortal Kombat, etc in 3D... sure some were fun, but in the end 2D is where they probably should have stayed the whole time.

There's my Rant ;D

Well I have to say that I loved Donkey Kong 64.  With a passion.  There have been no new 3d Donkey Kong games since that and that's probably why I'm a bit dissapointed to see it in 2d again.

But I agree with a lot of your points except for the Pixar thing.  That was just a bad example.

Fair enough.

I'll admit I could have thought that example out a little better :P

Sounded good at the time.

EDIT:

For the sake of attempting to continue conversation of this topic...

I'm finding myself torn between skepticism and nostalgic excitement for the new Twisted Metal. While I believe the series was fun, I don't actually think the game was ever... Good.

After watching the linked trailer I'm almost afraid that they may have gotten rid of my favorite part about the series... the wide variety of Characters. Each with their own (albeit thin) story on why they are where they are, and what their fates are after they win. (Mr. Grimm, Axel, Ghost, anyone remember those guys? ...anyone remember any other character than Sweet Tooth)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has some potential as mentioned in another thread.

I Am Alive looks interesting, I believe I read about this game a Loong time ago. Interesting Concept to me. Which I believe to be... Post-Disaster Survival game.

Mortal Kombat, but more so the Interview with Ed Boon really has me thinking the game will be taken in much like Street Fighter 4 is/was.

Again, Monkey Island 2: SE. Point and Click games are making a Slight comeback with Telltale leading the pack with a majority of old LucasArts titles. Though LucasArts themselves actually giving fans something (even if it is just a remake to cash in with) is just a nice gesture. With Audio Commentary, and added Concept art packed in to a game that will probably cost at most 20 dollars (as the first game Did, now selling for 10 or less). I can't really complain.

That's all for now.

Just proves that games don't HAVE to be in 3D to be good or sell well.
