I hope you all know about the "landing bug". If you don't your a stupid noob, GTFO....       Just kidding :P. But personally, I don't think it takes away from the game at all. It actually makes the mercs job a little harder and not so lame. When a spy jumps down from a decent hight and goes uuuggghhhh, the merc can easily just charge, but when the spy shuffles through visions, he doesn't do so. Of course I am not implying that you should add that the spy needs to switch visions in order to avoid the slow down, but you should just take the slow down out. I don't know why, but it seems like it would positively impact the game.

Just make it a legit move.  Adding a roll animation when you hit the ground would be best.  Just hit the crouch (maybe) button right when you hit the ground and you'll perform a roll to avoid that big stall you get from falling a great height.  Someone suggested this a long time ago, forgot who.  Oh yea, it should also be shown in the tut.

Gawain

replacing the vision-switch bug with the option (!) to make a roll instead sounds like a good idea to me.

I believe some sort of 'get up fast' move will be implemented, because everyone uses it.

yep, make it so that if you press the 'roll'-button exactly when you hit the floor, the spy performs a roll and continues running. If you miss that point, he goes into the slow-landing animation.

Dude, that's your best idea yet. Crouching move to avoid slow landing animation FTW.

This is the best way to implement this imo.  There needs to be some sort of movement penalty for falling from a great height.  Making it a move you must perform while landing still makes it possible that you will miss-time the button press and get slowed down, but people who take the time to master the timing will be able to run away easily.

Kurbutti

Don't you need a lot of forward momentum for that roll to work?

doing a roll can also be quite bad, so it's balanced. but it's important that there's still the choice to stay where you landed.

we can make it so that you need some forward momentum to perform the roll.

frvge

By definition you'll have forward momentum. Unless the ground on which you stand when you start the jump moves away while you're in the air. Even then, you can just roll when your feet touch the ground I believe.

You can still roll w/o forward momentum.  Just have the spy's legs project the spy.

don't we have a freerunner for movement advice?

But how does that make you land softer? The way I see it we might just as well include a head first-leap of faith for that purpose.
