After Project Stealth is out, will it be possible to...

... to implement our own features(new animations, new player skins...etc.)? For our private use ofc. Then we could post them on forum and say "I made a parachute and an animation of sky diving for it. If you like it you can implement it to PS". That wouldn't hurt anyone or...?

puuusianka

Well modding is a little bit too much to say. jsut implementing small things into the code.

Doable? Maybe, depending on your technical knowledge. Supported/guaranteed? No.

ok let's put it other way, will it be open source after the release?

frvge

If we get asked by Epic Games for educational purposes of UDK, yes.

Generally (for now), no. But if you're interested in how we did a certain thing, you're free to ask.

not rly what I wished it to do frvge... I thought I was clear enough in first post... I mean why not? Is there any reasonable argument against it?

frvge

Yes. Same reason why [insert game X]'s source code is not open source.

And in our case also mostly because if you change the code and recompile, the projectstealth.u file differs from the others, and won't be able to connect (took 2 days to figure out why I couldn't connect to Morten, even with the same code). So if people compile their own stuff, they won't be able to play with others. And if people spread their own .u's, we get tens of PS versions and that's a pain in the ass to manage. Constantly swapping .u's is kinda annoying.

LoL. thats why I said for our private use... then we could show it on forum and give you a chance to implelement it IF YOU WANT. Anyway if you get your PS fucked up - whats the problem with reinstall? you won't loose saves(since its not single player) and you won't loose account (since its on net). So there is nothing hard to cope with...

Project Stealth game is their game, and I doubt they would want someone to be modding it and leaking it and saying "OMG I DIDN'T MEAN TO" + Why would you need to mod it and keep it for your own use? I doubt you will have fun playing alone on your own mod.

gosh you seem to have problems with getting me...
AN EXAMPLE:
You create a damn animation of spy licking his ass and it works properly whenever you launch it. You used kismet to achieve this beautiful thing and now you wish to put it in PS. You put it in YOUR PS and see that it works. You go to forum and say "HEY I MADE AN ANIMATION OF SPY LICKING HIS ASS. SEE THE ANIM ON YOUTUBE(Hyper link here). IT WORKS ON MY COMPUTER. HERE IS A LINK TO IT IF YOU'D LIKE TO TRY IT. I HAVE MADE A FULL INSTALL SYSTEM TO MAKE IT EASIER." - then the great devs could download and see if it works and if it doesnt show any issues and they like the anim they implement it to their official PS. Things taht are running amatuer around the internet are ofc made by amatuers but that is obvious. You wouldnt have to correct the amatuer things taht weren't confirmed by team and added to official PS. so WHAT'S the fuckin problem? ;)

And even if something screwed up on someones computer then REINSTALL and everything works correctly...

Great Devs could download, that means other people can download too unless you keep it private, other than that it's public, so that means you are not using it "For your own benefit" right?

I'm not sure what the cooking system will do (if we decide to 'cook' our stuff), but AFAIK you can just load some anim files. So yes, you can probably animate stuff yourself. But getting it in-game requires more stuff.

the second part of the post covers THIS clearly - Devs won't have to repair things taht are made by amateurs if they are not confirmed as part of the project. Downloading amateurs stuff is at your own risk and that is obvious!

We don't have time to test things craeted by the communtiy. We barely have time to actually do the dev-work. =/

And that anim is basically impossible in Kismet.
