From what i read, i thought the UT3 netcode was going to be altered more by you guys (dev. team) to make it even better?

I don't think we have access to that low-level code with UnrealScript.

The netcode in ut3 isn't much better than in ct, and in some cases its worse. I've thoughly tested this. The only thing that helps is the decent dedicated server support ut3 has. I've played ut3 on a dedicated euro server (I'm from Canada) and didn't even notice I had 170 ping. While playing on a listen euro server I had like 220 ping and it was practically unplayable, because of ridiculous lag and host advantage. So unless we have dedicated servers for ps, I would't bother playing it, cause it would be the same old shitty laggy ct with different graphics.

Dedicated servers are a bad option in a game with 4 players to one server.

Why? 1 real server can host lets say 80 slots / 4 = 20 4-player games.

Shitballs. But dedicated servers for UT3 are designed to hold 30+ players, while PS it will only be 4, so there lag alot less than UT3. It's a shame the net code can't be altered without buying a license. However I don't imagine anyone hosting Dedicated servers on PS, because the fan base isn't large enough.

So you're saying if i hosted a dedicated server/s on PS i would be hosting 20 ded. servers?

+ Dedicated servers don't work in a game with 4 people. If someone has the wrong eq, you're fucked. The hosts are never paying attention so at the end of each round you wait like 10 minutes for them to start the next, it's a real nightmare. Unless there was some system in place, like a bot or something, where you could type something into console if you need to go lobby and players could vote, and you can vote to start again, vote to change map, gametype, ranking (if implemented), however this would only be available for dedicated servers.

Frvge asnwered it.

The same thing ubi devs thought when releasing ct. Me playing ut3 on Lediniz' server with only 2 of us was lagging insane in ut3. From my own experience it wouldn't "lag a lot less" just because there are less players.
I don't think even if the devs had license they could improve it significally.
One dedicated server could host the current ct playerbase no problem. Fanbase has nothing to do with that.

It was already discussed to death and I think pretty much everyone agreed that first player who joins a server becomes a full admin. Just like in ct except the server uses its own bandwith and cpu, so that players with horrible connections and pcs full of spyware and running programs wouldn't lag everyone else. It would eliminate host advantage as well.

Ah yeh i remember that thread, seems like a good idea. I think we will need more than one dedicated server, after all the publicity its getting with PC Gamer magazines and stuff, maybe two or three. If only 80 people get project stealth I will cry. It will be the same shit, hard to find decent games. I think there would be a slight degree of host advantage, the person lagging the least will have Host advantage. Theres nothing anyone can do about that though. I thought the conclusion of the thread is that it will probably not be possible cos u gotta pay for the dedicated servers or something. Maybe Splinter cell network could do it. Not sure what sortof deal they've got going with the dev team or frvge or whatever.

SCN is dead. I ran it. Lots of cool ideas that never came true because of the abomination that's called SCDA which reduced my interest in the 'new' SC.

Oh... :(. Then who hosts this website?

frvge

The same server  ::) You can host multiple websites per server. Like... a hundred, or even thousands if they don't use a lot of processing power (like pure HTML landing pages).

Ohhhh, i didn't know that. Well you learn something new everyday. So what about hosting a few dedicated servers which held about 20 games each?

Would this be possible?

If money is the only problem, maybe players could donate a fixed monthly or yearly rate (like WoW), i honestly wouldn't mind paying for some dedicated servers, just so long as i knew everything was secure, and it stopped all the laggy bullcrap.

This is probably way way way harder to set up than i imagine.

Thanks for learning to read, but I said that host sniping was just the lack of lag.
Yeah, no shit.  Therefore host gets an advantage because they have no lag.
I never said that hosts get bigger aiming box or anything. It is just easier to snipe without lag. Logic?
Yeah, no shit.  Host has no lag.  Therefore it's easier to snipe as host.  Therefore it's a host advantage.
Did I ever say that my grabs are legit? I said that there is no reason for noobs like you to cry about them, because my side grabs do not come from host ability, they come from a quick reaction by the merc.
If your grabs aren't legit then I should have the right to complain about them.  I see a contradiction.  Have you ever been backed into a corner, then seen the host come run right towards you, then grab you?  I've seen it and experienced it loads of times, as both the host and as a guest merc.  I have not once seen a guest grab someone from the front of the merc.
I have elbowed somebody from behind as a host too, open your eyes please.
I've side grabbed as host... but I've also side grabbed as a guest.
You aren't going to grab someone 100% of the time from behind even when you are host.  But you are going to grab them as a host from the left side, the right side, or from behind them 90% of the time.  While as a guest it's much much much lower percentage.

I'm absolutely stunned by this post.  Or any post that says there is no host grab.
